The major way is the severe trade imbalance between us and them. We're essentially subsidizing their existence.
If they wish to be a "sovereign nation", then they should be paying for their own defense, for starters. Otherwise, if we are wholly subsidizing their existence (via defense spending AND severe trade imbalance), then they might as well be the 51st state...

Agreed. Thankfully, there's never been any actual intention to make the whole of Canada into a 51st state. Trump's mainly just making a point with that sort of rhetoric. He also preferred Carney to win so that it would be easier to get Canada to ditch the USMCA on their own accord. This also means that Alberta will be more enticed to leave Canada and join us as a 51st state.
Canada is our largest trading partner. They are huge in tourism too for America. Tourism is one of our biggest businesses. Trump will be gutting that industry too.There are many ways that Trump's ignorance is hurting us . We have a trade imbalance with Canada because they have 10 percent of the population (customer base) that we have. Even a righty like you, so deep into believing rightwing lies, should be able to handle that math.
