It was a calculated move to eliminate Trump's standard complaints that he got a biased judge. This makes moot all of Trump's delay tactics in trying to get the trial moved to a different court. The trial can now move forward quickly.

A grand jury of his South Florida peers indicted Trump based on the overwhelming evidence.
Cannon must proceed or lose all credibility and likely her career. She can be removed. Does she stand for justice? We shall see. She is on the spot now. These are very serious charges. There would need to be a very prominent reason to dismiss the charges. Nobody is above the law. Trump was given every opportunity to comply with the law, which he flouted. Does Cannon uphold the law? That's her job, her reason to be in that position. All eyes are on her now. Tomorrow will be interesting.

The good news is her criminality was exposed the last time she tried to block for Trump.
Imagine had that last issue missed her and this was her first assignment on a Trump case. She could have tanked the DOJ case by denying a lot of evidence such as the lawyer notes and everything that came from it.
Even if the DOJ won an appeal the second case would be long after the next election.

If one person votes "not guilty" it is a mistrial and the prosecutor can try the case again (and again).
