car trouble question

Are you driving in city or on highway. Maybe cooling fan is malfunctioning... last time I changed out a thermostate it cost me about 5.95. Stupid Mazda however sticks their thermostat under the air intake. Took for ever to find it.

Anywho.. if you leave the car running while still, does the radiator fan kick in?

If you find yourself stuck with an overheated car, crank up the heat. It will provide you with temporary relief (chance to find safe refuge), but dont attempt to drive too far doing this.

All I know is that it really sucks if your serpentine belt snaps and suddenly you're car won't start half the time, your power steering don't work, your AC won't turn on, and you have to spend a gajillion hours online looking for schematics cause some dumbass who used to own the car took them out to God knows where along with the manual, and then you have to spend another gajillion hours having to put the damn thing back on.

WM. Get a new belt. Your alternator is what recharges your battery. Without that you'll completely deplete the charge, permanently. If it goes too far even a charger won't do you any good. With the engine in place it's awkward to replace the belt but do it.

here is 1 for you all. I have a pickup that I use as a third vehicles so its not getting started daily. Battery keeps dying in it so it makes me think there is something drawing from it. Just had battery checked and its good. I did notice that the cables were all corroded so I got a new set that I will install this weekend. What other likely things would be drawing from the battery?

Lights, radio, clock. If your cables were bad, there may just have been a draw-off; perhaps there was a ground associated with one of the cracks? See how it goes over the next few days. How old is the battery?

Well battery was just checked today and is supposedly good. I did notice that the wire from the negative to the screw in the trucks metal was busted.. ground may need repair there. Also the battery had been bounding around in there a little was not tied down.

I installed after market radio into it about a year back.. I never noticed the problem before cause i was driving it daily but now that i don't it keeps dying.

yep You might want to get one of those little cheap trickle /float battery maintainer chargers for it.

That alone could do it. You have to make sure all your electrical connections are good and secure.

You were recharging by driving it. The radio may or may not have anything to do with the problem. Again, just check all your connections and prevent any electrical arcs or leaks.

Does your aftermarket radio have any draw, a clock that works when the truck is shut off perhaps?

thanks guys. i got to get this truck up and running for winter. also need to do muffler but may do myself.. place wants like $800 to do it. fuck that.

none of the above; it's your electric radiator fan. since it only happens in traffic (stop/go) and ac blows warm, then that means no air is moving through the radiator/aC condensoer. moiving air is required to both cool the AC and radiator coolants.

eithet the fan is dea, the realy is dead. The overtemp and AC switches are probalby ok since one or the other should turn the fans on as required.

with your AC on, the fan on the radiator should ALWAYS be on, if not that's the problem.

Easy test is to run wires from battery to fan unplugged form normal wires. If fan runs, then the relay is shotola. if not, the fan is shotola.

piece of friggin cake....anyh more questions?

in the dark, see if any light is shinging under the hood; the gravity swith for the hood light may be bad.

btw - Chapdog, if you want to get rid of corrosion without purchasing new cables use Coca-Cola. Corrosion simply goes away.

I already put it back on, Thorn. It just took two-gajillion hours. That was my complaint.

Does simply not start sometimes? It may just have been the corrosion was blocking the current. That was another problem with my car. I replaced the caps, doused the wires in coca-cola, and it hasn't happened since.

And here's my third biggest problem, guys. The one I haven't solved yet. Sometimes, I stick my key into the ignition, and the damn thing just won't turn. I have to keep on tugging on it until it manages to slide into position and crank, but sometimes this takes up to 10 minutes. I'm scared one day it'll just stop working completely, but it hasn't done it in about a week or two. Anyway know what's wrong with that?

it starts when battery's not dead. engine is fine. all belts new.. its a Toyota with only 120k on it. Its got to be a draw. going to fuck with it this weekend.

if it does it with a spare key, then the ignition switch is shotola. if spare key works, it's the key.........
