It's a fair argument to say the Church covered up pedophilia for decades. It's also fair to say that Protestants also covered up pedophilia for decades, Judaism covered up pedophilia for decades, schools have covered up pedophilia for decades, Boy Scouts covered up pedophilia for decades, Penn State covered up pedophilia for decades etc.

This isn't a religious problem, it's a perverted human being problem. Perverts always have been and will be with us forever.

Well said (i'm referring to the bolded portion of your response). It's fair to point out the problems with religion and pedophilia but you are spot on that it's a human problem and ridding the world of religion isn't going to change that.

People are free to be anti-religion but it's disingenuous to single out religion on this issue.

I know plenty of real Christians who maintain respect for Muslims and Jews, and do not dehuminize them or treat them as the enemy

Hitler killed in the space of few years. Same with Stalin and Pol Pot. None of them took centuries to kill their millions.

Blaming these deaths on Christians is nothing more than bigotry. Yes, there have been deaths caused by overzealous Christians, but to blame all Christians for the act of a few is bigotry.
Let's take your argument further:
Since all of these deaths were caused by human beings, then all human beings, including you, is guilty of murder.

I never said all of them were from England but the ones we usually think of when discussing the beginnings of the US were the Pilgrims and Puritans. Furthermore, all Christians are not Catholics.
