Lonely rescue cat finally finds a forever home

BILLY THE RESCUE CAT

A cat from Southampton which had been without a home for nearly a year has gone off to his forever home this week after finding his perfect match on Valentine’s Day.

Billy, a 10-year-old domestic short hair cat, went into Blue Cross care on 23 March 2021 after his original owner had a change of living circumstances.

The unlucky cat had two potential new owners fall through, for several reasons, and the charity was desperate to find him a loving home.

Unfortunately, black cats are notoriously difficult to re-home thanks to superstition and myth that they are an omen of back luck.

However, one year on Billy has somewhere to call his own sharing a house with new owner Melanie in Odiham, Hampshire.

Melanie applied for Billy on 14 February after seeing his profile online.

Kirsty Smith, Rehoming Supervisor at Blue Cross Southampton said: “Billy had been one of our longest stay pets but we’re so pleased that he has now found his perfect forever home.

Dog Out On A Walk Finds Someone Very Stuck In A Stone Wall

A STICKY WICKET

A guy and his dog were out on a walk one day through a field in Tow Law, England, when the dog suddenly became very interested in a nearby stone wall. After looking a little closer, the pair found a cat — who had somehow gotten himself completely stuck in the wall.

The RSPCA was called and Inspector Ruth Thomas-Coxon drove over to try and help. She was hoping that it would be as easy as just gently pulling the cat, later named Freddy, out of the wall, but she quickly discovered that he was much more stuck than that.

“Initially it looked as though he’d chosen to tuck himself inside the gap, but he didn’t try to run away when we got closer,” Thomas-Coxon said in a press release.

Thomas-Coxon weighed all her options and decided the best way to free Freddy would be to take apart the stone wall.

“The owner of the paddocks and wall came out and, between us, we removed some of the stones to dismantle the top part of the wall and free the cat,” Thomas-Coxon said. “He made a dash for it and jumped into another part of the wall, where we were able to catch him.”

Even though Freddy was definitely stuck and needed help, he was also not super pleased about being rescued by strangers. Once he realized he was safe, though, he calmed down, and Thomas-Coxon took him to the vet to get him checked out.

“Vets found he was in fairly good health, although he had some mats in his coat, which they removed,” Thomas-Coxon said. “He was a sweet, friendly cat, so I wondered if he was a missing pet, but he was not microchipped. I made some inquiries nearby, put up a poster where we rescued him and also put his profile on PetsLocated, but, unfortunately, he’s not yet been claimed.”

Freddy is settling into the shelter well, and if no one comes forward to claim him, he’ll be put up for adoption.

14 cats rescued from hoarding situation need caring homes

At shelters like Long Beach Animal Care Services, which has compassionate, loving humans working or volunteering for the animals, every pet will also find one or more champions.

“This work draws people like that,” shelter director Staycee Dains said.

Dains said that identifying with animals in danger is essential to shelter and rescue workers. Animals who suffer in hoarding situations, which involve more pets staying in one location than a person can reasonably care for, are examples of extreme neglect. Recently, during an ongoing investigation, LBACS took in about 15 cats from a hoarding situation in an apartment. Thanks to the shelter’s volunteers, they’re slowly emerging from their self-imposed cocoons—one even went home with an adopter last weekend. The others are fearful to differing degrees.

Animal hoarding, says the ASPCA, “is a complex issue that encompasses mental health, animal welfare and public safety concerns.” It’s a tragic situation not only for the animals but also the humans who are hoarding them. They usually feel that they’re doing good for the animals and that they’re the only ones who can. It can be difficult, but compassion for the humans as well as for the animals is necessary for understanding animal hoarding.

If you suspect someone of hoarding pets, please contact your local shelter.

A cat had instant regret after "starting a fight" he couldn't finish, after chasing a magpie up a tree in a hilarious video.

His owner shared a clip to their TikTok page, @magnus_the_orange, earlier this week, which has been seen hundreds of thousands of times.

The ginger tom, called Magnus, appears to look out of his depth as his owner filmed him high up among the branches, with the bird safely out of reach, just behind him.

The on-screen caption says: "When you start a fight that you can't finish." And they then clarified who won the stand-off, adding: "Magpie 1, Magnus 0."

Commenting on the video, his owner wrote: Such indignity. Such shame. You hate to see it."

Andrea Torres is mourning the loss of her pet cat Andeng, who passed away yesterday.

The actress wrote a tribute post for her beloved cat, who has been with her for 10 years. Andrea mentioned that Andeng passed away soon after she got home from a taping.

"June 5, 2011 - Feb 25, 2022. Shortly after I arrived home, my Andeng took his final breath.

She continued, "He just waited for me. Just like how you were in the decade that we spent together, you never fail to touch Mommy's heart. I saw how hard you fought to grant Mommy's wish to have more time with you.

"Thank you so much, Andeng. I know you know how much we love you. You will be greatly missed. Rest now my baby..."

An international cat fancier society decided to slap harsh restrictions against cats bred in Russia and those belonging to people living in Russia, the latest sanction in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Fédération Internationale Féline Executive Board, claimed in its latest statement that they were "shocked and horrified" by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and they felt they cannot just witness these "atrocities" and do nothing.

The organization decided that as of Tuesday "no cat bred in Russia may be imported and registered in any pedigree book, regardless of which organization issued its pedigree."

Cat thieves caught stuffing family pet in box amid wave of catnappings

COMPS-DD-CATv2.jpg

A pair of suspected cat thieves have been caught on camera trying to stuff a beloved family pet in a box in the dead of night.

And there are worries the duo could be responsible for a string of similar thefts.

Victims have come forward claiming their pets have vanished only to later turn up on a pet selling website. The string of thefts has been reported to the police.

In the footage, the cat escapes the box as the would-be thieves were rumbled by the householders, alerted by the family dog.

When quizzed, the suspects claimed to be from animal charity organizations.

One victim told of her little girl being unable to cuddle her beloved pet each night before bed.

Worried Jodie Smith, from Chelmsley Wood, said cat Arlo had been missing since the end of January. The mum of two didn't know what had happened until a friend found the two-year-old pet on a selling website.

A pox on those damn hoarders. I know they have problems but it maddens me to see animals suffer through no fault of their own.
