CCTV: What are your thoughts on this?

There is something kind of wrong, I guess, with the computerization of enforcement, rather than the human element of the cop, who can decide to grant leniency.

Then again, because the cops are so lenient around here, the speed limit is basically considered to be 75 MPH.

Actually, I think it would make criminal activity more secretive and harder to detect.

I've heard arguments that CCTV merely displaces crime.

I heard something creepy coming out of Britian the other day. The ministry of the Interior is putting up cameras even in rural roads, with the intention that you should be unable to drive anywhere in britian without being observed.

Some cops are cool, some are not. I got pulled over a few weeks back because the layout of the onramp in this one city I was in was completely insane. The right lane of the onramp split off all of a sudden into a road and the speed limit went from 65 to 35. Thinking I was still on the onramp, I was going 53 in a 35. The cop was hiding near that spot. I told the cop it was an honest mistake and the road was completly clear, so I posed no danger to anyone and once I found out it was a road, I began to slow down (which is why I was going 53 and not 65). The cop said to me "Happens all the time, people think that's an onramp and it's not. But, I need you to sign this ticket."

After he pulled me over, he traveled the wrong way down a one way street to get back to his spot waiting on the next person not knowing that area.

And you don't find that discouraging?

Criminals can rob, kill, or deal just as easily indoors. The cameras aren't going to mess them up they're going to fuck up some poor sap who runs a red light like you said.

Speed traps blow. We have some egregious ones here that are clearly designed just to generate revenue.

Dropping from 65 to 25 in under half a mile? Yeah right.
