It's not that you can't get ahead in this economy. Whoever said something like that? It's that it's a lot harder to get ahead than it used to be. Which translates into fewer and fewer people doing so.

I've seen a rich man beg
I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad
And the down side of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
Smoked the finest green
I stroked daddies dimes at least a couple of times
Before I broke their heart
You know where it ends
Yo, it usually depends on where you start

Actually its easier now through the stock market and serious investing over say 20yrs as access to the regular joe is more available as is information and discount brokers. Its boring to most people though, they'd rather rage against the machine.

You claim it's easier? Why, then, are people dropping out of the middle class and into the lower? Why isn't the class of wealthy people growing as a percentage of the population?

In the larger social context, pportunities are worthless if they aren't practical. Perhaps the skill set required to invest profitably is just too uncommon for investment to be practical for most people. Hasn't that occured to you?

If everyone had an IQ of 150 or above, or had skill in engineering, say, there would probably be a lot fewer social problems and poverty. But they don't, and wishing that they did is pointless. Not everyone has the same set of skills and requiring a certain set of skills for "success" -- however that's defined -- is unfair and unrealistic.

150 wow don't need that, I'm only at 127 maybe that's why it took me 20years.
We have by far the best economy in the world.
We have the highest nuber of rich we've ever had.
Our poverty numbers are a joke, our poor are fat.

Yeah, yeah. We've all heard your mantra before. Sorry but I'm not converting to your religion so you may as well cut it out.

Your definition of "best" is likely different from mine.

The number of rich is irrelevent. I'm talking about the percentage of the population.

Our poor are not "fat." Anyone who believes that . . . well, it's Friday and I'm being nice.

Are you serious, the bottom quintile is probably the fatest. I wouldn't expect someone on the leftist fringe to believe heavily in investing.

I don't believe in investment as a prescription for curing our social ills, no.

Your first statement is quite possibly accurate if you're using "fat" in its literal sense. I got the impression from your first post that you had something more general in mind, however.

You are a small, pathetic man without the balls or the self-respect to address someone where they are capable of responding. The fact that you make countless post after countless post of so much insubstantial drivel makes you not only a poster of the likes of Desh, but a worthless excuse for a human being.

You aren't a man, you are robot programmed by the trends you see in the media and in Hollywood....using terms like "holyroller [sic]" in every argument no matter what the circumstance or personal beliefs involved.

You attach yourself to catchwords in a clumsy attempt to appear intelligent, and so you trap yourself by your own ignorant limitations.

:gives:

nothing wrong w/ knowing your on your way to the top

The problem is, Rob, what you think is the top (ability to freely consume and to wallow in consumption) is merely a very small ant-hill...

That's because the fringe left think a little deeper.

They realise that the stock exchange is merely gambling, using the livelihoods of employees as stakes. It is a purile method of short-sighted opportunism that is, essentially superfluous.

'Bahhah'? What are you, a sheep or something?

We're taught to understand economics in perspective rather than as a dogmatic doctrine.

Only sheep would follow a dogmatic doctrine....

Only someone who can't make a nickle in the market calls investing gambling and resort to lower class tactics like calling someone a sheep or a fuckwit.
Not many of your Britts make a lot of money though right?

Do you not know of much beyond your own town?

Many of the world's top companies are British. (Not Brittish you illiterate fuck-wit) Many popular US brands are in British hands. We largely control the diamond trade (de beers) amongst many others and we taught the US all it knows about capitalism.

But that has nothing to do with the reality that speculating on the stock market is gambling recklessly with the livelihoods of many people. It was when we created stock markets.
