Chavez On Private Schools: Teach Socialism or Face Takeover

Let the brainwashing begin...I knew they were developing a new curriculum to force Socialism being taught in public schools, but I guess that wasn't enough, no free thought allowed to be taught.

"President Hugo Chavez threatened on Monday to close or take over any private school that refuses to submit to the oversight of his socialist government as it develops a new curriculum and textbooks.
"Society cannot allow the private sector to do whatever it wants," said Chavez, speaking on the first day of classes.

All schools, public and private, must admit state inspectors and submit to the government's new educational system, or be closed and nationalized, with the state taking responsibility for the education of their children, Chavez said.

A new curriculum will be ready by the end of this school year, and new textbooks are being developed to help educate "the new citizen," said Chavez's brother and education minister Adan Chavez, who joined him a televised ceremony at the opening of a public school in the eastern town of El Tigre.

The president's opponents accuse him of aiming to indoctrinate young Venezuelans with socialist ideology."

Not my country; don't care. Unless there's some sort of genocide going on. They elected the dude overwhelmingly, twice. They can have him.

I care in the sense that's its crap like this that ultimately retards the country's growth and one way or the other what they do effects its neighbors and ultimately the U.S.

We'll see if Cindy Sheehan, Sean Penn or Danny Glover put out congratulatory statements to Hugo on their websites.

Calm down.

In the history of Latin America and Venezuela, there have been far worse governments than Chavez. We managed to survive. ;)

Right right, sorry I forgot, you only care when countries like Iceland (that you used to make fun of for being irrevelantly small in the coalition of the willing) withdraw from the coalition of the willing.
Then that's big fucking news for concern!

Also you do realize that in the last election, a lot of the opposition boycotted
because the election was corrupt with pro-Chavez people dominating the election council.

Maybe one of Chavez's idols can help you understand why that matters:
"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything." – Josef V. Stalin

I am of two minds when it comes to leftist politics in Latin America. I think that if the PRD can win an election in Mexico, like they did in 86 before the lights went out, that Mexico will be a country with TRULY free elections. But once that happens I hate to see things like Chavez happen to good people. Chavez is a totalitarian JUST LIKE Pinochet. Only he wants a leftist ideology force fed to his people. People are being arrested without cause in Venezuela, and they will disappear people just like rightwing totalitarians did in places like Chile and Nicaragua.

that is part of the problem. Cons always worry about every one else and do not take bare of things on the home front. Picking up guys in bathrooms and such....

Reading that it's kind of funny how Liberals always say that Conservatives should care about what goes on in the rest of the world too and not just think about America.

You know you could always just...you know...not post here. I mean if you don't care and have nothing useful to say well then why not....ah who am I kidding you've made a 20000 post career out of writing useless crap that makes you look like a moron.
Sorry forget it.

Heck I will go for totals too, not just percentages right out of total posts.

Most of your posts are one-liner comments like:
"Huh-huh, how about Bush with Iraq? :D"

There is nothing right or wrong in that, could it be that you are under this incredible delusion that you actually post facts?

LOL, just wuss out Dano. If I had such a track record of being wrong as you do I would be embaressed to show my face on any any board.

You just want my one line record. You seem to not post very much origional stuff, just spam republican talking points and such.

Comeon, I have not seen that list of all the dem congressmen in scandals lately.
Whassup why not post it ?
heck I even posted some good news a couple of weeks ago.. A real shame that there is not more good news with Bush in the WH.

Wow, I must have really gotten to you - I mean one, two, THREE whole paragraphs!
Hope you enjoyed the show folks, we probably won't see that for another 20,000 posts...

Other than people that are disappearing without a trace, I really don't care either.

And yes Dano, I do care about the disolving of the Coalition of the "willing" a lot more than I care about Venezuelen Civics Courses. One indicates the international community's further distancing itself from the US and the other signals Chavez' passion for Socialism. Hmmmmmmm, which one should I care about?

Hurray for apathy!

Yeah, like prayer in school just indicates a passion for Jesus.

Chilling. That's all I say.

And the leftist responeses were pure idioicy. They just don't want to go outright and say they love Chavez's communism.

There were definitely those who were very happy with Chavez when he spoke out against Bush and the U.S. and nationalized their oil fields. Now when he does something like this its not a big deal.

It's a very silly cop-out. We discuss international politics all the time here. Whenever someone - especially a radical like Chavez - proposes what basically amounts to his attempt at transforming the new generation into communists like himself, it worries me about the direction the world is going.
