Cheerios Ad with Biracial Family

It took me a while to figure out what the references to 12 & 13 YO trollers was. It certainly wasn't explained very well. I now understand that it was in reference to some of the on-line responses to the ad. OK.

But kids do NOT learn hate and intolerance from each other in the absence of input from the previous generation SOMEWHERE. They are only a reflection of adult attitudes without a regulator having yet been installed.

Yeah, I still don't think you got it.

OK, I understand the concept of trolling. And thank you for explaining that THIS is what you were referring to.

But, I do not believe every comment IS trolling nor will I NOT comment on a subject I think needs comment even IF someone were trolling. So... as well as I am able, I try not to let a troller unduely influence me one way or the other.

In this case, since my family IS multiracial (as the term is used here) I think I have something to say about it. I have for some time felt advertisers were moral cowards by NOT portraying people and families as they really are and not as some dinosaur segregationist might want them to be.

I don't know how to edit and I know I sort of inserted one too many NOTS, but I hope my message is clear anyway.

Your comments, wisdom, and perspective are indeed most welcome here on this and any other issue you choose to discuss.

Thank you brother.

while I don't deny racism is alive and well in our society, I don't know how strong the metric of 13 year olds trolling on youtube is to be judging our society.

your big problem with this claim is todays 13 year olds are not the racists.

Your party is and not many young people are joining the racist party

Excuse me, but what does Clarence Thomas have to do with this? I hate Clarence Thomas, but not because he's married to a white woman.

That's the point.

If they hate black men married to white women .. they must hate Uncle Tom-ass as well.

Evidently, there is a disconnect. Most racist Repubs and consevatives swear by Clarence Thomas, giving him honorary "white" status, as he routinely votes against blacks and black and minority interests. O.J. Simpson was granted the same pass, until he murdered his wife.

You're making the same point the Sierra's satirical comment made.

I just kind of think it's sad that we're at a point where the race of commercial actors (or actresses, to appease Tom) is a discussion.

You don't look at Youtube comments often do you....or play games online....or visit 4chan (don't do the last one, seriously).

I don't think any of us believe there are no racist kids OR kids that do not understand society's concept of acceptable discourse someplace other than at their gang hangout. And they will spout off! But, none of us exist in a vacuum and those loud mouth racist kids learned that hate at the knee of some adult or from some other kid that learned it from a adult. Like a genetic defect, this crap get's "passed down" from generation to generation.

But, I do believe there are fewer of them every day. If for no other reason than the fact that every day there are more people of color or mixed families in this country. And I would also like to think because our society as a whole is getting just a little smarter. And over time all this hateful prejudice will go the way of many other bankrupt ideologies. And the longer certain political movements fail to understand our country's demographics are changing the sooner they will be gone to join others that are no longer relevant.

unless your assumptions are simply wrong....maybe they just like him because he's conservative and don't care who he's married to....
PLease. LOLOLOL. When have I ever been wrong? That was rhetorical.
Like O.J., who was being a "good negro", on the playing field, in the movies, playing the endearing buffoon....as long as he was providing some "return", he was forgiven his predilection for "white women", until he murdered one....his wife. Then all bets
were off.Likewise, as long as Clarence Thomas is portraying himself as, essentially, a racist, conservative, "white" Supreme Court
Justice, he is not going to, nor has he been criticize for having a "white wife", which is rather strange, seeing that he is an equal opportunity sexual predator which no restrictions on race, per Anita Hill.
