Those are good paying jobs, and it's painful when people lose them.

When I worked in the industry, Chevron had a reputation for being one of the better petrochemical companies in regard to environmental stewardship. I never investigated to see if the claim was merited, but I think there were one of the first multinational oil companies to acknowledge human impacts to global warming.
