Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day

Americans eventually get over our intolerance, sometimes it takes years, sometimes a hundred years, and sometimes it just fades into a corner somewhere and only pops out when needed.

So there is the possibility in my lifetime, that we'll see pinheads who want to pervert traditional marriage, fade away into the corner somewhere? I don't really look for the intolerant Christian-bashing to go away, seems this bigoted intolerance has been around for about as long as Christians have existed. But if the hope exists that we can one day see an end to people trying to ram their views down our throats through intimidation and ridicule, I say that is GREAT!

You still beleave in white supremacy so you oppion on this is worth a pile of shit.

Well no, I don't still believe in white supremacy, and I never did believe in it. For the record, I am not 'white' ..at least not full-blooded. So I don't see what supporting white supremacy does for me, since I would have to support my own eradication.

And if you watched anything on the news yesterday about CFA, you realize this was much more than MY opinion.

The guy has every right to have his belifes and to share them. I have every right to not spend money at his establisment and to encourage others to not spend money at his establishment.

I would not care one bit if the only thing was that he belived gay people to be second class, what I care about is that a percentage of the money I spend at his restaurant goes to that cause.

You mean by trying to condemn/destroy them for expressing their thoughts?

What it's time for, is secular idiots to go read the 1st Amendment and STFU.

Mr. Cathy didn't force you to follow his beliefs, he didn't refuse to sell his product to those who didn't believe as he did. He's 'guilty as charged' for expressing his viewpoint. He doesn't have to keep it to himself, the 1st Amendment doesn't say that.

To try and run people out of business and destroy them because they don't believe as you, is pretty much forcing your beliefs on them, don't you think?

How does this infringe on anyones 1st amendment rights? Everyone is expressing themselves...don't you think that's what the first is about? Oh, you homophobes just want to say any stupid, nasty thing about Gay folks and not hear about how most people in this country think your a bigot, otherwise, whats the prob?

Mr Cathy gives thousands of dollars to support the effort to suppress gay rights. That means he puts his money where his mouth is, so do others. I thought baggers believed in market driven economics?!?! It's just speech right? Corporations are people and all....

Wonder if thats why so many people showed up yesterday to spend their money at his retaraunts.

This is a myth that's is preached by the SBC...to hear you tell it the Jews have nothing to complain about.

I guess they support him and like his food. I wonder long term if this will help or hurt them. Narrowcasting is powerfull, its what fuels Fox News. If the market is saturated with what the majority wants, you can make money being the only one catering to what a minority wants.

You have government officials threatening to deny them equal protection of the laws because they dont agree with their stated views on gay marriage.

Really? Where and how....oh, while you're at it, how about explaining how this is a 1st amendment infringement. Thx.

Here's the thing I think many of you are grappling with today... I don't think you imagined how many people were going to defiantly reject your attempts to smear this man for expressing his Christian-based opinions. I think, in your world, you believe that 49-50% of America thinks just as you do, and you somehow represent a majority which simply can't be wrong. The fact is, about 80% of America is fairly well-grounded spiritually, and have fairly strong religious beliefs, and didn't particularly agree with what you wanted to do to him. I don't think seculars ever expect what the Christian coalition can do, or how much power they have. It tends to blindside you like a 2x4 in the face when it happens... and you run around muttering this kind of idiotic nonsense.

Everyone who is familiar with S. Truett Cathy, knows he is a Christian. His stores have never been open on Sunday, even though a good percentage of them are located in shopping malls, where Sunday is a HUGE day for business. One of the most motivating books I have ever read, is his book, It's Easier to Succeed Than to Fail. It's a very inspiring story of his success, and I highly recommend it. Mr. Cathy has certainly given interviews before, and he has certainly given interviews to Christian publications, and I would imagine he has probably always been consistent on his viewpoints regarding homosexuality or gay marriage... so why all of a sudden is this an issue? What started all of this controversy?

It was a manufactured instigation. We've pretty much ALL figured that out by now... or at least, I hope we have.

Well if it was true (it's not) that most Americans are doinionist evangelicals and agree with you then the repugs wouldn't be so busy trying to disenfranchise so many people from voting. They can't win in this country in a fair, honest election so they use dirty tricks.

We on the left don't 'grapple' with this, it's straight forward American values to be inclusive and protect minority rights.

Everyone also knows that Cathy practices exclusion in their employee policies...ie firing anyone determined to be gay...I wouldn't doubt that the same would happen to any atheists that were 'discovered'...we on the left are not the ones trying to legislate our values...we legislate so people can make their own choices, not so the right. Yet you all make much about the constitution and freedom all while you wage your culture war.

This week, mayors of Boston, Chicago and San Francisco warned Chick-fil-A and its CEO Dan Cathy, who’s been an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage, not to pursue new franchises in their cities. Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said he shares his fellow mayors’ concerns and would consider trying to block the chain as well.

1) I have not attempted to smear anyone, I simply have chosen not to buy his product.
2) I find his belifes to be very anti-christian.
3) I dont know or care if a majority belive as I do.
4) I dont know how this got started, but the fact is that what he does with the money he makes selling unhealthy fast food has now come to light and some people are unhappy about it.

If they discriminate in their employee policy they should be banned...if some other fast food joint discriminated against christians, or blacks, or jews, I'd say the same thing. It's illegal. It's illegal for good reasons.

Everyone also knows that Cathy practices exclusion in their employee policies...ie firing anyone determined to be gay...

??? I'm sorry... I don't think he said anything about firing people determined to be gay. What sort of 'determination' could he make on this? The way they dressed? No... I think they have uniforms... If they had a lisp? What?

What Cathy said was, he hires people who have strong Christian values. That's really ALL he said. And I am VERY sure there are SOME gay Christians.

I'm still waiting on how first amendment rights are being infringed...soooo

Even worse, this boycott, it's got a chilling effect on the First Amendment. Because I said so, that's why. I'm not 100% solid on what a "chilling effect" is, or how it relates to this particular situation, but one of my handlers just texted me a bunch of stuff and that's the term that I picked out of there. It sounds good, right? Chilling effect. It sounds menacing. That's what I'm looking for here.

Make no mistake: they want to take away our freedoms. When anyone can marry whoever they choose, it devalues all the other marriages. How? Okay well I don't really know whatever but God said so, so there you go. Freedoms!
