Incarceration is cruel and inhumane from my perspective.
Humane euthanasia has always been my preference.
I suppose that opinions may vary.

Most Laws protect those '12 and under'.
Adolescence is a transition stage.
18 or 21 is usually assumed as 'Adult'.

So, it's kind of interesting how every Country has a different 'Age of Consent' Law. (Japan is 13)

Progressive Massachusetts, believe it or not, has a sixteen year old age of consent, not eighteen as one might expect a state like ours to have.

We got rolling in the 1600s, however, where 16 was something seen differently than we see it today,
It could have been later changed, I suppose, but it seems to be working out OK is terms of sex.
In terms of marriage, that's a whole different thing.

This isn't my field of expertise, to be sure,
but being a JPP contributor,
that wouldn't stop me from posting about it.

:) Mine neither. I find it interesting. It's really a personal choice (starting to fuck) that everyone makes. Every Country (or Culture) tries to put a number on it. Canada is 16, so maybe that influenced your State?
Notable exception ... Saudi Arabia. You can't fuck until you are married. So ... this might be an important place to have a 'number' on when you can get married. When they say 'Child Bride' in Saudi Arabia, they really mean child bride.

it is not really an age where it is okay to fuck. it is an age where a child can legally consent to have sex. it is designed to keep adults and older teens from preying on too young girls.
