Children with liberal parents more likely to suffer mental health problems: Study

I love how, in their desperate need to attack me, the JPP left is forced to admit that, YES, LIBERAL PARENTS HAVE MORE MENTALLY DAMAGED KIDS...such irony.

This should surprise no one, with plenty of evidence of this claim...everywhere.

Children with liberal parents more likely to suffer mental health problems: Study

Children who grow up in politically liberal households are more likely to suffer mental health problems than their conservative peers, according to a new study.

An Institute for Family Studies-Gallup report found that "political ideology is one of the strongest predictors" of which caregiving styles a parent adopts, and conservative parents are associated with the best mental health outcomes for their children.

"Conservative and very conservative parents are the most likely to adopt the parenting practices associated with adolescent mental health," study author Jonathan Rothwell, who is also the principal economist at Gallup and nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, wrote . "Liberal parents score the lowest, even worse than very liberal parents, largely because they are the least likely to successfully discipline their children."

Conservative parents have several key distinctions in their relationships with their children that inform mental health outcomes, Rothwell explained, including being able to "effectively discipline their children, while also displaying affection and responding to their needs." The right-leaning parents also have better quality relationships with their children, "characterized by fewer arguments, more warmth, and a stronger bond."

Political ideology is just one predictive factor in the overarching conclusion of the study , which is that having high-quality relationships between children and their parents is the most important factor in achieving positive mental health outcomes.

The study comes as adolescent mental health has plummeted over the course of the last decade, a free fall marked by increased suicide, depression, and anxiety, among other problems.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics have offered recommendations like better funding for psychiatric services, the study notes the CDC's solutions "almost completely ignore the most important known determinant of youth mental health: parent-child relationships."

The best mental health results come from "warm, responsive, and rule-bound, disciplined parenting," Rothwell said. This style is otherwise known as "authoritative."

~ Mental health predictors other than political ideology also included views on marriage; those who believe marriage is not an outdated institution and think it improves relationship quality through commitment had more positive parenting styles. That worldview translated to spouses, where those reporting better relationships with their partners were more likely to have effective parenting practices

We Jews who are overwhelming liberal are vastly more intelligent and more well adjusted then your kind, just saying

Low IQ & Conservative Beliefs Linked to Prejudice

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

It's not about intelligence; it's about mental illness among the children of liberals..

When you live around crazy people all the time, it's likely you'll end up crazy too...

Children with conservative parents are more likely to be abused.
That's simply a fact.
That's simply not true.... neglectful, abusive, angry, aggressive, uncaring, immoral, etc. parents are everywhere these days..."Political persuasions" really have very little to do with it...
There are also wonderful parents...
Each and every family is different and individual...and should be evaluated as such...and yes, I'm giving that opinion based on many years of teaching and interacting with all kinds of people and their families..;)

I have to disagree--heartily.

Leaning Right admitted to slapping his kid for saying "shit."
Owl admitted to being slapped by one her parents for just saying "crap."

The Midwest in general is totally amenable to beating up children.

I can think of ONE thing that would have inspired either of my parents to hit me.
That would be if I had ever raised a hand to one of their grandchildren.
I might have caught a baseball bat for that.

I actually hit people for medals and trophies. Then for money.
Mostly for FUN, TOP.

I wouldn't dream of hitting one of my children,
and thus, in my dotage, I actually have a close relationship with them.

My daughter, btw, is a Lieutenant-Detective in the Domestic Violence Unit of BPD.

That doesn't label all conservatives, does it? I would never hit a child...mine or any child for that matter.... I would never hit anyone...and never have....I'm telling you what I have observed over many years...and had much interactions with situations including violence and child/abuse and neglect...One even went to court in New York City...our school was nationally famous for so very many wrong reasons...
You mentioned two "stories"....I only believe one...;)

I will confidently assume that you mean the second.
Leaning Right can be found on these very pages admitting to the first.

It was around the time that he was extolling the virtues of Singapore for caning people.

I haven't seen either story...but I were to find them, I would only believe one...
I don't believe stories for every occasion...;)
I don't condone striking anyone ever... ( I know how to...and have...broken up fights without having to smack anyone.........although I probably would pop someone if I saw them abusing a dog...or child...and there was no other alternative...)

Liberals are more likely to seek help and admit to being depressed or having anxiety. I’ve seen it in my own family. The super religious have problems but depend on prayer instead of good mental health counseling. It’s not working, but they are in denial.

So your parents are flaming liberals. Fascinating.

I have that idiot on ignore so didn't see the OP till you quoted it. It's absolutely hilarious. Mental illness knows no political, racial, national, religious boundaries -- it's part of being human. It's how we deal with it that matters. It's quite unlikely that therapists question clients about their parents' political views unless they show up as part of the client's background that led to their seeing the therapist. I.e. they were punished for being friends with a kid whose parents belonged to the opposite party, or they were indoctrinated with fear and hate that extended beyond politics. Maybe it just looks like there are more "liberals" in therapy because we don't have the stigma against seeking help? Or maybe there are just as many RWers with mental struggles, but they treat it with alcohol/drugs, or by engaging in mass shootings?

It's odd that most mass shooters are not liberal at all; just the opposite. Hmm.

Except often the children from conservative homes are not strictly peers. Having simpler minds fewer things exist to trouble them.
