Christianity Today's split with Trump highlights deeper issue in white evangelical

There has been a big drop-off in white evangelical church participation among adults under 40, and publications such as Christianity Today and religious leaders are struggling to engage “Gen Z,” or those born after 1996.

“One of the major factors is that the church is too tied up in right-wing politics,” said Greg Carey, a professor at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. Evangelical activism against gay rights is particularly repellant to many members of a generation where “everyone has friends who are LGBTQ,” Carey said.

Trump’s presidency may make the age gap worse, some evangelical Christians believe. “Having to go out and defend this guy day after day, as many of these Trump evangelicals are doing, they’re just destroying their credibility,” said Napp Nazworth, who until Monday was politics editor of another publication, the Christian Post.

Nazworth resigned over the Christian Post’s plans to criticize Christianity Today for its anti-Trump editorial.

He told Reuters many younger evangelicals opposed Trump’s immigration and asylum policies and were concerned about alleviating poverty, in contrast to older members of the faith. Evangelical leaders standing with Trump “will have no moral authority to speak to moral issues of the day after defending him,” Nazworth said.

One reason church attendance and Xtian beliefs are sagging in America is due to the younger generations who have wisely decided to think for themselves rather than have a preacher tell them what to believe. This is a world-wide phenomenon.

Think for themselves? On the contrary, their minds echo exactly what they're told to think, you dumb@ss. Maybe they get an hour a week in dumb deistic therapy church, but 50+ hours a week between government schools and jewish-controlled media.

Trump is the first atheist president in a long time. He was never seen at the church he claimed to be a member of and he absolutely blew reading the bible at Liberty School. Even under the eyes of the
nation, he does no go to any church.
Nobody can really twist themselves into thinking Trump is religions, assuming they pay any attention to what he says and does.

name this person who thinks Trump is religious........does he post here?......the issue isn't whether he's religious........its whether he has carried through on the promises he made when he campaigned........which he has......did you know he's appointed 187 federal judges, including two SC justices?......

Yeah....that 80/20 split with the 80% favoring Mr. Trump is a terrible thing. :laugh: If I were a leftist I would be more concerned about the 35%+ support of Mr. Trump by the Black Community. Just saying.....going from 95% democrat support to just over 60% is a huge drop in relation to whole number quantifiers.....now thats a demographic that is on true life support.....the ignored BLACK DEMOCRAT BASE....looks like Mr. Trump has tossed a virus into its hard drive.
