Christians Oppressed in The US

I must be doing something right if all the crazy liberals seem to think I'm a fascist and all the crazy conservatives seem to think I'm a socialist.

Please. Dawkins is every bit as intolerant and hate-filled as any of the right-wing nuts--- just because you agree with him doesn't redeem his extremism.

Anyone who can compare Falwell with Dawkins could compare bananas to peas and come away with no difference.

"I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world." Richard Dawkins

"An atheist before Darwin could have said, following Hume: "I have no explanation for complex biological design. All I know is that God isn't a good explanation, so we must wait and hope that somebody comes up with a better one." I can't help feeling that such a position, though logically sound, would have left one feeling pretty unsatisfied, and that although atheism might have been logically tenable before Darwin, Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist." Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker
"If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being." Rev Jerry Falwell

I had a student ask me, "Could the savior you believe in save Osama bin Laden?" Of course, we know the blood of Jesus Christ can save him, and then he must be executed." Rev Jerry Falwell

"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve."

Rev Jerry Falwell, blaming civil libertarians, feminists, homosexuals, and abortion rights supporters for the terrorist attacks of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, to which Rev Pat Robertson agreed, quoted from John F Harris, "God Gave US 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says," The Washington Post (September 14, 2001)

I've hear of exactly ONE non-christian politician...that guy who was recently sworn in on a Koran. Can anyone else think of any others?

That muslim-american representative from Minnesota. The wingnuts went apoplectic about him.

In addition, for the first time ever, there was a hindu priest who was given the podium in congress, and religious wingnuts showed up to shout him down.

Can a religious group that utterly dominates government honestly claim to be "oppressed"? C'mon people. It's the most ridiculous claim EVER.

What about the War on Easter?

Religion is not about understanding the world, it's about understanding how to act. Slightly different. Most religions are pro survival, at least the survival of the followers at least. The modern nihilism (anti-human) movement abhors an ideology which makes people feel emboldened to live. Elitists hate hope.

LOL----that was good. :)

But, I may be wrong, I always thought liberials and fascist could not survive with out eachother, and may be one in the same.

Well, teaching how to act is not doing so well. (Huge factor deciding to fight a war many times) so it must be about recruits not just for survival, but a race to be the only religion (a few of them). Yea, I can see things getting nasty. As far as I can tell though, I think the teachings I learned are a good model to live a life. I seem to have a unusual ability to retain integrity for right and wrong that most people don't don't seem to recall today. We use to--but not today IMO. We tend to grow away from right and wrong IMO. Tollerance does tend to have a domino effect, over generations, that way IMO.

Yes. I agree most organized religions are pretty fucked up. Including Judeofascist Noahidism.

Congratulations, you have proven that Dawkins is intelligent and that Falwell is an idiot--- but that still doesn't make Dawkins any less of a fundamentalist than Falwell, nor does it make him less intolerant.

Btw, Midcan, I have noticed a disturbing trend of you allowing quotes to do the talking for you--- if you can't have your own opinions, what good are you?

A good Republican ?

No, he doesn't. However, in the academic world one must read up on the subject being discussed to act as an authority on the subject-- in other words, he would not have to read up on "Leprechaunology" to disbelieve in them, but he would have to read up on it in order to present himself as an authority on leprechauns and why they don't exist.

Are you shittin me? You don't have to be an authority on idioicy to tell what it is, like Christianity.

The public has a short attention span, and lesser comprehension skills. Democracy isn't all it is advertised to be. The freedom to choose representation is a great thing, unfortunately, those who choose to refrain from educating themselves on the issues do not refrain from voting.

Most excellent post.

I think it's a slightly more perturbing effect that those radicals with tunnel vision, like elderly gun nuts, are far more likely to vote than moderates like college students.

But Christianity is not idiocy...in fact, I would consider those passing off religion as idiocy to be the true idiots.

Religion is one of the most complex and widely-discussed subjects in all of human history, and it is foolish to dismiss such an integral part of the human experience simply because you don't personally believe.

And my point still stands that if you want to talk about something in an academic sense, you must be well-read on the subject. You can disbelieve in God all you want, but the first theologist that comes your way is going to kick your ass in a debate unless you know what you are talking about.

Where'd God come from?

People with degrees in theology are all idiots. There's no more dumbed down discipline, besides sociology (the study of communism).

"Wandering in a vast forest at night, I have only a faint light to guide me. A stranger appears and says to me: 'My friend, you should blow out your candle in order to find your way more clearly.' This stranger is a theologian." - Denis Diderot

Theology is actually a very complex subject, and it is very easy to oversimplify with things like "where did God come from"...if that were an easily answerable question, religion would not have persisted for so long.

Look beyond the fact that you are an atheist...

I'm beginning to think you are just a CK multi.
