Because their economies aren't as reliant on heavy industry with high labor costs. Tell me this Mr. "I Hate the Middle Class". What happens to this nation when we can no longer make the basic materials needed to defend our selves but have to out source their manufacture to Mexico and China?

Out sourcing is more then just an economic threat. It's a national defense threat. Not only has this race to the bottom caused the current generation to be the first to have a lower standard of living then their parents, not only has it funneled more money to the upper classes while creating poverty and a shrinking of our middle classes it causes the following national defense threat.

#1. We have become reliant on foreign powers who do not have our best interest at heart.
#2. We have lost the infrastructure to produce these materials ourselves and;
#3. We've lost the skilled tradesman and crafstman neccessary to produce these materials and products.

What have we gained? A handful of super wealthy plutocrats who produce....oh...what is it they produce?...oh that's right, derivatives on pieces of paper.

The labor costs are so high because you have unions: socialist organizations, and high corporate taxes: a Democrat policy.

Oh don't give me that old hypocritical canard. The only one who is being a socialist is you. You seem to think that it's ok for anyone but working people to negotiate what the market will bear for their services. Why is ok for you to do that but not a tradesman Mr. "I hate the middle class"?

For the second time WTF are you talking about?

According to the last Simpsons episode Detroit people are living in Thunderdome time...

:D
I stopped watching ths Simpsons years ago. But seriously, it's awesome. I mean in the video the guy drove around pretty much the same neighborhood for the majority of the time. He passed the same boat at least twice. I'm not going to pretend like there aren't problems, but we still have a lot of industry. And a lot of the auto industry now inhabits the outer limits of the city, except the Ford Rouge plant, but a lot of that is pride. We also have one of the largest oil refineries in the nation. And the harbors. And of course our gambling establishments.

i hate to do this as usual but this is reallllllllllly old. I expect this from tom. not you watermark.

It's got it's bad parts like any city and the weather there can suck but I've always had a great time when I've visited the area.
Actually, because of lake St. Claire, the weather is usually pretty nice. Unless you're on the western side of the city. Then yeah.... that can suck.

And it's a good pass-through on the way to the top of the thumb.

Depends on how you look at it. No speed limits is good, but the roads and constant construction suck.

You have property in Bad Axe?

No, but I used to vacation with my cousins in a cottage near Caseville. I think we went up on 53, the towns I remember passing were Imlay, Marlette and Cass City. Good times.

I've only been through Imlay. It's nice in the thumb, but I typically go to Lexington rather than going further north. If I go up north I'm going to the bridge.
