In an odd turn of events, after much scrutiny, CNN once again enhances the 911 tape only to find that it doesn't sound like what everybody thought it sounded like...

Instead it appears that Zimmerman whispers "Fucking cold" rather than "Fucking coons"...

According to reports the new enhancement uses better technology to remove background noise without changing the voice.

If it was cold and possibly raining (?) it might also explain why Martin was wearing a hoodie.

I've never been convinced GZ was a racist but I wouldn't doubt it. He is for goddamed sure an idiot.

The latter is more believable, seeing that he also mentions, "they always get away". Was he talking about leaves blowing?

At that point he was talking about "punks" and getting out of the car. It seems logical that after he stepped into the rain and started walking he might notice the cold a bit more.

But hey, whatever floats your boat. You want to believe something bad enough you go with whatever you want rather than what you hear.

I didn't even hear that other line when I 1st heard the tape - I only heard the "they always get away." In the context of how he was saying it, it sounded racist to me.

I don't see how just that would be racist. Considering he had reported others in the area, which was suffering from a large amount of robberies, and they had gotten away saying "They always get away" doesn't seem to have any association with race.

However in the first "enhancement" I heard him whisper something entirely different than what I hear in this better enhancement. From "coon" to "cold" makes a huge difference.

If you want to use poet's definition from yesterday that if something is true it is not racist we would need to find out if people have gotten away with robbery in that neighborhood.

I think it is hard for many people to get beyond hearing him say "he's black" in the edited version first released.

That was one sick edit. He never mentioned anything about the kids ethnicity until he was asked.

Indeed it was a sick edit. And it put him in people's minds as a clear racist. Now its hard to see him as anything else, so the other details are slanted (in their minds) to show that.

It's the context. Why is Trayvon a robber? Why is he following him?

He is profiling. He's followig Trayvon because he's a black guy.

If Trayvon had a TV in his hand or was emerging from a house's window, and he said "they always get away," he'd be talking about robbers. He didn't. He was talking about black guys.

I believe what is reasonable and logical. The facts are a 17 year old, black youth, is dead...and the obvious vigilante who shot him is not even under arrest. And you think it's a "stretch" to believe the obvious? Good for you. It's like global warming. Until you see an iceberg floating down a river, near where you live, it's a myth. But by then, it will have become too late to do anything about it. You people slay me.

Nonsense. He's following somebody he doesn't know in the capacity of Neighborhood Watch in a community that had some ridiculous number of unsolved robberies in the last year.

Please. Racism is taught. Had his father been a doctor, I'd side with you. His father is an ex-judge, probably with the same mindset of present Texas State Rep. Ted Poe, who was a notorious "racist" judge, and no doubt, thinks blacks are "coons", as much as Zimmerman's father.

I agree. I feel it's also important to remember that it's not just the racism in one person. It's the racism that is institutional. Why was the dead kid tested for drugs, but the shooter wasn't???? Come on now! Let's be real.

And the attacks on him after his death, just horrifying. It reminded me a lot of my first real lesson in what happens to women victims. It was Jennifer Levin. I couldn't believe what the newspapers wrote about her. Here she was, dead, strangled, and her diary became public. She had had sex before! Of course any girl who had sex before definitely asked the guy to get "rough" with her and is it any surprise he went a little too far, accidentally of course, and killed her? I never forgot that, I bet a lot of women didn't.

And this case really brought home to me how similar it is for black victims of violence. I mean, this was a big eye-opener for me.

Whether Zimmerman is a racist or not is debateable. That he is not under arrest says nothing about whether or not he is racist.

It's not nonsense. It was my first reaction to that line - and I'm not a knee-jerk "cry racism" guy. More often than not when race has been discussed on this board, I'll chime in saying it's an overreaction or something.

But I've heard guys talk like that, and sound exactly like GZ did. I'm not saying that it proves definitively that he was a racist, or that this was a racially motivated crime - but it sounded racist to me. His tone & words were a frustration borne in part of racism. He's not following Trayvon because he's a robber - he's following him because he's black.

Like I said, you believe what you want to believe and what was originally presented. Edited tapes making the guy look nearly inhuman. I was on here too calling for the guy's arrest. Shoot we didn't even know that he had been arrested and detained in that evening at that time.

Now we see enhanced video first reported as "not showing injuries" now suddenly showing injuries, we hear a tape originally "enhanced" to hear a racial slur enhanced by the very same news network that gave us the first tape with him saying something entirely different.

It's not logic, it's what he said. You want it to show him as the monster you wanted to believe he was.

Dude isn't even white. He's exactly as white as the President is.
