Americans might support DACA, but not to the level where they are willing to shutdown the government over it. The numbers people quote, like 90%, are that they probably are only 90% "sure whatever" when it comes to the issue. Not full on passionate. This is reflected in the current CNN poll where they would rather have government open than care about cheater dreamers.

According to CNN, 56% of Americans would rather the federal government stay open for business than Congress reach a compromise on DACA. "Still, 56% overall say approving a budget agreement to avoid a shutdown is more important than continuing the DACA program, while just 34% choose DACA over a shutdown.

The 'blame' will bounce around the polls from one side to the next depending on who is polling.

That being said, the poll that matters comes this November, and the polls of January won't matter.

The perception of Trump's weak and racist 'leadership' will indeed linger and matter.

Is someone actually quoting CNN? Aren't you a Trump Conservative? Is this how set some people standards are, that a news outlet is fake, biased, distorted, etc, until it says something they agree with? I'd laugh pretty good right now, if my side didn't hurt.

And because that is a CNN-fake news poll, you can believe that the figure was probably more like 86%......

i am not a trump conservative. I am a libertarian that sometimes appreciates the pragmatics of what trump does (SC nominations), and I do like his trolling.

The poll is the poll. You are free to interpret it however you wish.

You enjoy his trolling? Could their be a less needed skill in a leader? He's a scumbag, and you admire that, so who could take you serious in anything political? This isn't jr high games, and the last thing you need handling issues you need discrepancy in is a troll. Trust me even if it was your best friend, you wouldn't accompany them if they wanted to handle a bees nest with buck shot.

think whatever you want, it's immaterial to the subject matter of this thread. Do you dispute a majority of americans don't care that much about DACA given they would rather the government function than take care of them? The point is the 90% in favor number is misleading, because it's 90% support to a point and that point is, not having the gov shut down over it.

Comprehensive immigration reform has been kicked down the road too long and needs to be settled. George W. campaigned on it and then got lost in the aftermath of 9/11. There is actually a growing evangelical movement within the GOP that sides with the left on many of these issues. There is no reason something cannot get done. As for DACA, I believe that was a deal Trump struck last time to avoid a shutdown on and he never held up his end of that prior bargain. I don't care if the government is opened or closed officially. Most of the stuff will still get done. Telephones might not get answered, and trash cans might fill up, but programs already baked into the budget cake continue on, essential services continue, etc. It is window dressing as front office and support people are about the only ones truly affected.

Who even needs the poll.

You have to be a die hard lefty to put the welfare of illegal immigrants ahead of the military. The die hard lefties are a slim minority.

I’m surprised the numbers aren’t even more lopsided. But it’s CNN, so yeah lol.

Dems are on the wrong side of this one. polls are narrowing, but still favor Dems in the midterms.
the retirement of Repub's though is a very big factor

2018 Generic Congressional Vote
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/2018_generic_congressional_vote-6185.html

Thing of it is, the out of power party is *supposed* to gain ground in the mid terms. In 2010 democrats got the shellacking instead of just losing some ground.

Anything less than a democrat led shellacking in 2018 will be [well, should be lol. The partisans will celebrate a modest gain] a cause for concern on their part.

The polls are narrowing because this makes two consecutive missteps for democrats: the First was opposing a tax bill that Bill Clinton would have scored big on; and now democrats are putting the interests of illegal aliens ahead of everything else.

2018 is far from decided. There’s a lot of game yet to be played—to keep with the NFL play off theme.

Lol, numbers don't lie but CNN does.

Even liberal CNN can't muster a poll that supports this BS shutdown. Schumer and the Dims are staging a stupid tantrum. And the American people aren't buying it.

Poll Shows Most Americans Blame Trump and GOP for Shutdown Mess
In past years, the president has argued that the responsibility to keep the government running lies with the White House

As President Donald Trump and members of Congress point fingers, blaming opposing political parties for a potential government shutdown, the public has spoken. A Washington Post/ABC poll finds that a most Americans would blame Republicans and the president should Congress fail to reach an agreement to keep the government funded by midnight on Friday.

Forty-eight percent of those polled in the survey of more than 1,000 people said they would hold the GOP responsible, while 28 percent said they would blame Democrats. Eighteen percent said both parties would be equally to blame.

Democrats and Trump critics including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have argued this week that with the Republicans in control of both houses of Congress and the White House, they are responsible for keeping the government running.
