"TCEP will be a 400MW power/poly-gen project that will also produce urea for the U.S. fertilizer market and capture 90 percent of its carbon dioxide (CO2) – approximately 2 million tons per year – which will be used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in the West Texas Permian Basin. "

The Saudis have a HUGE fertilizer business extracting urea from oil refining and capturing gas for repressurizing reserves... for decades.

They also desalinate sea water and create cheap electricity as a by-product.

The technology has been around for 4 decades.. it just takes money and the will to do it.

Yet you said that there was no new investment in coal, and I've shown that you're incorrect.

In the third quarter of 2017, the U.S. exported 24.6 million short tons of coal (12.5% of total production)2*to dozens of countries around the world; the largest markets were India (11.7% of all exports), the Netherlands (10.7%), and South Korea (10.6%).2

In the third quarter of 2017, the U.S. imported 2.3 million short tons of coal, mostly from Colombia (77%), Canada (13%), and Indonesia (9%).2

Now, tell us how that compares to previous years production!

So why can't the Saudis help the Jordanians and Palestinians fund the Red Sea-Dead Sea pipeline and desalination project?

It is clear from some of the posts in this thread that many of the people really don't know anything about coal mining or coal mining areas. I am third generation Shanty Irish. My great-grandfather came to the U.S. from Ireland and mined coal and died from it. My grandfather mined coal and died from it. He made certain that not one of his sons ever stepped foot in a coal mine before he died of emphysema. The people that want coal industry to come back are people who never worked in mines before or never moved on from mining. The people in coal country in PA still live and die with the results of the coal industry everyday. Talk to people of Centralia, PA who have coal shafts on fire under their feet. Talk to all the people that lost sons and daughters to coal holes and bank collapses. Tell them how much you want coal to make a comeback.

One facility in Texas? Do you think that will save coal mining?

An integrated project that also produces gas for fracking and fertilizer is hardly a coal fired power plant.

Nice to see you liberals are rejoicing my state loosing it's industry and jobs. Hell, you want to see the government supporting everyone, right? Put everyone out of a job so they have to vote Dem to sustain themselves. Quite the strategy you have.
The thing that sucks about the whole damn situation it is the fact that these people who've lost their jobs would much prefer to support themselves. Isn't the fact that losing your pride because you've lost the means to support your family humiliating enough? Obviously it isn't.

Its not about losing jobs, but solely about Trumps lies to the miners telling them their jobs would come back. He knew all along the this was a dying industry with cleaner, cheaper and more efficient alternatives.

Hello Darth Omar,

It is not simply a consideration of whether the economy needs coal jobs. A greater concern is whether the Earth needs more dirty fossil fuels burned up.

I definitely have compassion for those without work. Lack of opportunity does lead to increased drug and alcohol use. American blacks are a prime example.

What does race have to do with it?

Where conservatives part company with progressives is in the area of using government to do things the free market should be doing. If coal is dying, it doesn’t need federal regulations to speed the process. Obama set out to kill an industry.

And Hillary promised to keep it going. That’s how you make a blue state red.

I don't know.. I know the Israelis fought the construction of the canal for 3 years. I have been following it pretty closely for the past five years.. It will eventually save the Dead Sea, generate electricity and desalinated water.. and save the water table of the Jordan Basin.

I do know the Saudis have assisted Jordan and the Palestinians financially since 1948..

Do you know anything about the history of coal mining in this country? Living in the company store, private armies... utter disregard for worker safety?

Kind of like many blacks of the same era lol?

The jobs pay well for very good reasons.

I do, it was always in the Saudi interest to keep the Palestinians suffering so that they could use it to beat Israel over the head. Maybe the new guy will be far more pragmatic and realise that it benefits the whole region not just Israel.

Oh for God's sake, it is a prototype!! If it proves successful then there is every expectation that it will be rolled out elsewhere. If not in the US, then most certainly in China.
