College football conference championships, CFP predictions

Money was given under the table before, now its being done legally via the N.I.L . Lots of people have said these kids should be paid in some form (others than scholarships worth close to $350K at schools like USC) and we're seeing it.

Definitely should be paid, and as I said yesterday, should unionize, they are paid professionals, and since you admit it is being "done legally" now can you admit that money is the common denominator to a successful college football team, successful defined as a perennial in the national football playoffs?

No program has more money than Texas and they still suck. The schools themselves aren't funding the N.I.L. You can go to Manhattan, KS and have groups give kids $1m deals.
Do you think K State is going to be in the playoffs anytime soon? (Hint: No they won't.) Ultimately kids want to go to school where they will win and their talent will be developed so they can make it to the NFL. The N.I.L deals are important but that will still trump everything else.

What makes you think a lot of them ever went to school?

Actually thanks to the grad transfer rule a lot of kids go to class (and graduate). Now whether they actually learn anything and if their degree is worth anything more than the paper its written on is a separate question.

I predict that the rest of football this year, both college and the pro's, will be decimated by pandemic protocols.

Omicron is doubling every 2.5 days, and there is nothing we can do about it.

I got Texas as third (https://www.on3.com/news/top-25-hig...on-richest-ohio-state-michigan-texas-alabama/), and as the article notes, "Every program that has won a football national title over the last two decades ranks in the top 25," well except for one, which should be an interest for you. And that is the money the schools report, which as we know, isn't often the whole story

I'd disagree on the "kids want to go where they will win," kids go where they get the best deal, in some cases that is tuition packages, and in others, undisclosed fringe benefits. The NIL just brings it above ground, which is why the big time coaches are now bitching, they now have open competition with those that previously weren't anxious to skirt the rules

Sure they do, North Carolina showed how to do it, "paper courses" designed specifically for football players

USC is the ultimate case in point. Look at all the talent we had until Helton burned it down. Now you see it coming back under Riley. Kids want money now, but they still see the big picture of the NFL money and who can best get them there.

Obvious the damn has broken, stories are almost daily now

”Tom Brady signs Michigan QB Cade McNamara to NIL deal”
https://saturdaytradition.com/michi...-signs-michigan-qb-cade-mcnamara-to-nil-deal/

Disagree on the NFL thought, kids will go where they can do both, and sports talking heads may up your profile because you are on a top team but a big money contract spreads your name everywhere

And you should be happy, USC being in a major market is going to land all kind of NIF deals, kid ain’t going to Tuscaloosa to do car commercials when enticed by the big money potential LA offers. (Still won’t make the top four playoff)

The NFL doesn’t care if you got a big N.I.L. deal, they care if you can play or not. So ultimately player development matters (which is why so many So Cal kids who grew up dreaming of going to ‘SC didn’t because of the lack of player development under Helton.)

You’d think being in the spotlight of LA and the level of money our donors have that N.I.L. should be advantage for us. But we’ll see.

As I said, hitting the fan daily, now we got Texas alumni groups offering $50,000 per lineman for kids who go to Texas, and another Texas group committing ten million to the effort (https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/sports/...ns-being-pledged-to-college-athletes/2838989/)

Nothing personal, but to think these kids are going to turn down that kind of money for “player development” is naive, within three years college football will be the G League for the NFL

Which gets back to my original point, the common denominator of success at the top level of college football, the perennial six or seven who are always there, is money, always has been, which now is out in the open

The Texas one is drawing a lot of attention because it's basically 'we'll pay you to come here' vs 'here are the opportunities available once you get here'. Arguably the same thing but we'll see where this goes.

As last year's number one recruit Ewers showed by transferring after one year at Ohio State, kids still want to play. CJ Stroud has two more years of eligibility and there's another 5* QB on the roster. Ewers supposedly has a $1m N.I.L. agreement but he wasn't going to just sit on the bench and collect his money. Kids want to play and win and make the next level.

At Noon today Domani Jackson is making his school choice. He's a 5* DB from Mater Dei. Was originally committed to 'SC but understandably de-committed due to the dumpster fire of a program we had this year. Looked like he was headed to Saban and 'Bama. (How can you blame any CB for wanting to play for Saban.) We'll see what he does but all signs point to him coming back to 'SC.

The times they are a changin Archives. Lincoln Riley has been here only a few weeks but he gets USC football and you can tell he understands L.A. and So Cal and the kids recognize this. Even with all your sh*t talking it's not too late for you to jump on the bandwagon. :)

Since you're now on the bandwagon feel free to join in the celebration:

You see the top story on ESPN.com? I told you homeboy, 'SC is the sleeping giant of college football. Haha. The excitement and buzz is back. Hop on for the ride!

I'll see you in the playoffs next year?

Eh, we’re too much of a mess for it to happen that quickly. It’s a big reason that stud All-American CB transfer Elias Ricks from LSU picked y’all over ‘SC. If he had two years or more of eligibility left he would have come home but with just one year left he (understandably) chose ‘Bama.

Since you're now on the bandwagon feel free to join in the celebration:

If my premise is correct, which I think it is, regardless, USC is not going to crack that half dozen schools that are perennial playoff teams, I'd even go so far to say now Notre Dame is out of the picture, you can get all the NIL deals you want but when those schools that were already operating below the guidelines escalate their efforts other schools won't be able to compete, especially private institutions with academic reputations

So this year we have two first timers, one team making it for the second time and Alabama in the playoffs. Is Venables guaranteed to get OU into the playoffs consistently like Riley did? Will Dabo continue to get Clemson into the playoffs having lost his top two long time coordinators? But despite all that's happening at USC right now with the new coach, all the five star recruits and taking multiple coaches away from blue bloods and other SEC schools (our new OL coach announced today coming from A&M) and our history you can't get over the fact that 'SC is a private school.

Remember me in two or three years when it happens.

Ohio State or Michighan, what's the difference, OSU wins one game and it is as predicted, and Cincinnati, come on, you really can't believe that good coaching and recruiting on their own got Cincinnati there, and what is the probability they will be there next year of the year after

Well, good luck, but if it doesn't happen, and, as I am predicting, the sh*t hiting the fan with money in college football over the next couple of years, remember where you heard it first.

You think Cincinnati threw a bunch of money at 3* players? (because they don't have many 4* or 5* on their roster) That doesn't make sense. Luke Fickell is a hell of a coach and they've done an amazing job.

Lots of people are saying N.I.L and the money involved will f up the college game (and I don't disagree), but it's here. Did you read the ESPN article? Have you been to L.A.? Money isn't the problem for USC. All recruiting pitches now include N.I.L and how to profit off it. It's going to be fun...
