College Football season is almost here!

Do you enjoy the insult it represents to serious education?

I see no insult to serious education. In fact, there are scholarship football players that received academic accolades.

And any student who is serious about their education is not effected by a football program.

Among the greatest scholar-athletes to have ever played the game, Barrett Jones posted a perfect 4.0 GPA while earning All-America accolades on three Alabama national championship teams.

Greg McElroy, starting QB for Alabama was in the running for a Rhodes Scholarship.

And Alabama consistently places a good number of players on SEC and NCAA Academic honors lists.

But, again, this is an aside and not the point of the forum. What is wrong with being a fan of a team representing a college or university?

Which is the point you are missing, nothing wrong about a fan getting excited about some team he likes, but when the fan does it not recognizing that that team has major contentious advantages over other teams it is superficial

Not sure what "contentious advantages" you are referring to, but it doesn't matter. I have seen my team build a championship machine and I have loved it.

“Contentious advantage” = “I’m a talented football player and I’d rather go to Alabama [or Ohio State, or Florida, or USC, or Oklahoma, or Georgia] because of their tradition of winning…”

Just a guess … but that’s likely what he means. Sounds like a bit of jealousy to me.

Beginning to look like Alabama may well back into the playoff.
Here’s a chaos scenario: LSU beats UGA. Do they still get in? No chance LSU will be in but does Alabama get ranked ahead of LSU in that *long shot* case?

Does TCU stay in the top 4? I tend to think they do.
No shame in what they did today. If OSU is in, TCU should not be out, IMO.

Georgia beat LSU by a wide margin.

Right now Purdue is leading Michigan 10-7.

TCU lost, but by a slim margin. A one loss TCU should get in before a 2 loss Alabama.

USC getting toasted should let Ohio State in.

Bama will be playing in a New Years bowl.

Wow, great weekend for football!

My Buckeyes got all the breaks they needed.

So the Coaches Poll has;
#1. UGA
#2. UM
#3. OSU
#4. TCU

The AP has it as;
#1. UGA
#2. UM
#3. TCU
#4. OSU.

Both have Bama at #5. It’s very doubtful Bama will leap over OSU or TCU.

As a Buckeye fan I’m hoping the AP matches the CFP. Two times the CFP has had two SEC teams in the CFP. Both times they matched the two SEC teams against non-SEC competitors. That not only gave the SEC an automatic odds of 50% of winning the NC plus an opportunity for two SEC teams to play in the finals. I would like to see the BIG get the same opportunity.

Understandably there are a lot of College football fans outraged that there will be two BIG teams in the CFP (mostly in the South) and I understand.

But that’s probably what is going to happen.

So I’m hoping that our first game will be against UGA. If we can’t beat UGA we are unworthy of being champs and are spare the possible humiliation of losing twice to UM in the season.

Thus I’d rather play UM in the NCG but the honest truth is we’re chomping at the bit to play UM no matter what.
