Come on South....fess up

The only thing I dislike about this sort of garbage is the wholesale mockery of an entire geographic region, based solely on the social hobbies of a very small percentage of the population.

We can debate the issues that started the civil war, but that is not the point. That slavery was at the root of it is undeniable. But to make it sound as though the south fought only to keep slaves, and that the north went to war to free them is an enormous oversimplification.

I have lived most of my life in the south. My entire family is from the south. I have thousands of friends and aquantances from the south. I know 2 people who do civil war reenactments and not one who goes to cotillions to commemorate the south secession, or attends things reenacting Jefferson Davis' being sworn in.

The entire idea that the south is full of knuckle-dragging racists is just bullshit. The video was funny. But I get tired of this geographic bias and the bullshit that goes with it. I have met plenty of racists from the north, and actually more idiots.
 
If there is ANY real segregation in the south today it is between classes, Poor whites and blacks have more in common than anyone.

I've had a chance to live in the West, East, Midwest and South. Like you said there are idiots and racists everywhere you go. Most areas have a lot of racism in their pasts as well. I know California does. Someone wrote on this board recently that if you are black you could be shot by a white racist just walking down the street right now in the South. I mean not to say that could never happen but really? Don't you think if white people in the South just started randomly shooting blacks it would make national news and there would be a huge issue about it? But the mentality that the South is like that obvoiusly still exists and probably mostly from people who have never been there.

As someone who spent a lot of time in the liberal northeast before moving to the South I can attest that there is much more racism today in the north than the South.

I was born in Columbus and many relatives still live in the finest state in our union so I still rep for the O-H-I-O. Billy has imbibed himself a lot of haterade over the years.

However currently being a good size bottle of Kettle One deep I'm heading out to find a future-ex.

I've always thought that the only state that sucked more than racist northern yankee union states was Washington state.

I guess it's really a toss up though. I heard they eat their children if things get bad enough.:)

You Texans are so touchy when someone mentions the south, even though for all practical purposes you're the west.
 
I think you find racists everywhere you go! In Kansas, it was rampant against Mexicans because at the time, then the Vietnamese moved into my hometown and the hatred towards them was greater than the Mexicans. When I moved to Alaska, it is the Native Americans and those they call Eskimos which is a racists term. I believe you find it where every you go and there are groups of people that differ from one another!
