Texas is too big to be just one thing. Beaumont - Port Arthur is South, almost Louisiana south, Amarillo is more like Oklahoma and Kansas Midwest, and El Paso is more like the mountain west. Houston, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth just plain ole Texas. Austin is the true Misfit. It is like Athens Georgia and Lawrence Kansas. A bastion of progessive political people stuck in the land of born again right wing conservatism.

The only problem with Warshingon is that the west side can't drive in the rain, even though it rains all the time. Like right now, I-5 is completely jammed up, even though its a Saturday evening...
 
I consider myself a Northerner, albeit a Western one. After all, my Seattle sports teams play their home games father north than any other US team, as well as Toronto, Montreal, etc.

Besides, a lot of people moved out here after the Civil War, carrying with them the allegiences of whichever side they came from.
