Top bosses at some of America’s largest companies have received more in pay than their companies paid in federal taxes, according to a new report.

Senior executives at 35 different firms – from Tesla to T-Mobile US – received compensation worth more than the net tax payments of their respective employers between 2018 and 2022, the research found. All the companies generated billions of dollars in profit over the same period.

Analysis by Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) and the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) found the collective net federal income tax bill of all 35 companies was negative $1.72bn over the five-year stretch – meaning they collectively received more money back from the government in refunds than they paid.

We pay taxes so they don't have to. Why else would they give so much money to Republican Congresspeople and right wing media?

Truly disgusting. I'm not in favor of govt. dictating salaries, except for setting a minimum wage. But I AM in favor of removing all the loopholes and gimmicks that allow them to do business here without contributing to the country that makes them sickeningly wealthy.

Another issue is that so many CEO's pay is now a function of stock price rather than a result of whether or not the company puts out a good product. You can make the stock price go up in many ways, like by gutting labor, cheapening out on materials, etc. Then you get your millions, step down, and move to another company.

No, it is not. They do not dock their pay if the stock drops.

No, they don't gut labor. :palm:

Consumers notice cheap materials, and will buy from your competitors instead. That's the way capitalism works. The opposite of one size firs all socialism.

Why do nazi libs understand absolutely nothing about running a business, and providing consumers what they want? :palm:

So? If they paid the taxes they were supposed to by law and did their forms and such correctly and legally WTF difference does it make to you?

While I have no problem with the existence of an adequately regulated private sector,
American laissez faire capitalism is the horse and buggy of economic systems,
many decades past its expiration date.

A tiny percentage of people profit from it,
but it's also supported by tens of millions of incredibly ignorant people who are exploited by it.

Eventually, it gets out of control, as it will here--it's near there already--
and then, instead of effective progressive solutions,
you get a full-bore communist vs. fascist war,
and if it comes to that, I'm all in with the communists.

Yup. We can make the transformation into a system where socialistic ideas are incorporated into our capitalistic system...in an intelligent, peaceful way...

...OR we can do it the way the French did their transformation in the late 18th Century and the way the Russians did theirs in the early 20th Century.

My guess...the ignorant among us will force us to do it the latter way rather than the former.

So a company that has 150K plus American workers on payroll is not contributing to the country?

Maybe they should move to Mexico....u fucking IDIOT

Oh yes, by all means, we must never, ever tax corporations because they "give" us jobs. Said the subservient descendant of a tribe of feudal serfs.
