Confiderate bills.... offensive.

On the wall of my office, I have framed some of the confiderate money my grandparents had. To me it is an interesting historical artifact and pleasing to look at.

A friend told me it was insensative, I have black people in my office often, and that I should take it down.

Is displaying this money racist or insensative?

I had a black guy in my office looking at it and commenting on it pleasantly, he asked if I had any of the money to spare...

I think it would make an nice display...Put the confederate money with your confederate flag, maybe a picture of Dan Rather and Obama holding a watermelon, and some background music, say Zippity Doodaa playing...

but then I'll bet your one the first to condemn those that display the Confederate flag, right?

Im serious, I often dont see the insult in may displays... How is confiderate money offensive?

I don't know that it is other than the confederate flag is now often attributed to supporting the old south and racism. It seems the interpretation is up to the individual. But anything confederate has seem to become a lightening rod.

I think its an interesting historical artifact. Just putting it on the wall does not indicate support for any political cause.

A flag is different, but I still dont see that, except the government should not be flying it....

Many who see it never realized the Confideracy printed money or even had an established government.

It is an interesting artifat and is probably a good discussion piece. Stuff that is confederate doesn't state a political cause but can give the impression of supporting a certain period of time and attitudes from that time. I see nothing wrong with having it on your wall. I just wouldn't be surprised is all if someone somehow interpreted it wrongly.

I thought money in general was offensive to Liberals - you know "root of all evil" and all that. Well except when it gets forcibly taken from others via government then it becomes ok.

This money has been fully devalued by the US government.

It would depend on how you displayed it. If it were prominently displayed with a battle flag and other paraphernalia I would worry more. I'd add a framed quote about remembering the past so that we will not be doomed to repeat it or something.

Good idea...

True. But I'd hate for somebody to believe I supported slavery or was a KKK member based on stupid bills on the wall. It is important to put them in proper context.
I guess. But then you'll just have someone come along and say "you're just using that as an excuse". Some people are just out to find something to bitch about.

Sorry Jarod, the only solution it seems is to close up shop. You shouldn't have to compromise your pride with your grandparents for anyone.
I know, I know, what will America do with one less trial lawyer? Well, we'll just have to get by.
