when the free colonies put pen to paper and created a limited federal government that would in no way be more powerful than the people of the states, liberals and conservatives alike immediately started eating away at the edges. A power hungry supreme court took just 11 years to put itself at the top of the government food chain in deciding marbury v. madison, thus paving the way for the rest of the federal government to ensure that ONLY justices who believed in the power of government to sit on the benches of it's court system. After a series of supreme court cases where the black robed tyrants consistently decided that only the federal government was bound by the US constitution, the last being a case where the courts poked their finger in the eye of congress, the 14th Amendment was written and ratified. This didn't appear to phase the USSC though, since they still considered themselves at the top of the government food change and could direct public policy as they saw fit, have only applied the bill of rights against the states as desired.
In furthering the public policy of public safety, liberals have continually chipped away at the right to bear arms so that the people would always be as equally armed as the government, thereby averting any infringement on the freedoms and liberties of the people, eventually arriving at a point that ensures that the government will always have a monopoly on force and violence as well as qualified and absolute immunity for any atrocity they commit in the name of government interest. combine that along with the taking of private property for public benefit, and people no longer really own anything, they just rent it at the privilege of the government.
In furthering the public policy of law and order, the conservatives have continually chipped away at freedoms and liberties of the people, such as right to free speech, freedom of religion, security in their papers and effects, and freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures, all under the guise of public safety because if you didn't belong in jail, the police would never bother with you.
Now, liberals and conservatives, in your furtherance of public policy, people are no longer free from unlawful arrest or detainment. People are considered guilty until proven so. The right to travel freely no longer exists, nor does being left alone. Your furtherance of governmental power is completely opposite of what the framers of this nation desired, and it has succeeded.
