Connecticut Democrat and five-time state representative issued an apology for a lewd remark he made to a teenage girl.

A five-time democrat Connecticut state representative issued an apology and was stripped of his leadership post for what some people construed as a lewd remark to a teenage girl.


“If you’re bashful I got a snake sitting under my desk here,” State Rep. Ernest Hewett can be heard telling a 17-year-old girl during a Feb. 20 committee meeting.


The teenager had just testified in support of more funding for the Connecticut Science Center’s ambassador program.


She had told lawmakers that by participating in the program, which included handling snakes and turtles, she became more outgoing.


Hewett told ABC News’ New Haven affiliate WTNH-TV that he meant nothing sexual by the comment.


“I have apologized to her for what was taken out of context,” he said.


In a statement, Matt Fleury, the president and CEO of the Connecticut Science Center said he believed the apology was sincere and passed it on to the student, who also accepted it.

I'm failing to see how he could have meant anything but his penis with that statement. And exactly what context is he refering to? We get it that there were turtles and snakes and she was testifying to the calming effects of her interaction. What's the context of a snake under his desk? The "taken out of context" excuse doesn't even make a bit of sense here. He cracked a joke that mocked the actions of a pedophile, namely, hitting on a teen with a bit of sexual innuendo to feel out a response. The kid was wise enough to pick it up for what it was except the kid doesn't get sarcasm and irony.

It makes you ask if the kid is that stupid or if the guy is really a pedo who uses his ready-made excuse of "out of context" and "just a joke"

You know the old saying, "A slip of the tongue can get one in sh!t."
 
Well, you always have two options:

1) Apologize completely, take full responsibility, and hope for some good luck to befall you

2) Throw around the old "out of context line," barely apolgize if at all, and try to bull your way through it.

I guess he's going with Option 2... :cof1:
