seems political parties either advocate too little or too much governance

with libertarians as purveyors of garbage (let the garbage just stay on the street --- especially human garbage)

they all suck, but say do it our way or the world will end

oh, and the fanatics on this board are just a bunch of whinny little turds

the freaking windmills are winning as usual :(

:pke:

Dead wrong.

Political parties advocate more governance. More intervention, more interference.

Well, the ones in power do.

The rest are irrelevant, (not a personal opinion, but an empirical observation).

Don, political parties are not the cons and libs.

By international standards, there is no liberal party in the united states. There's a rightwing party and a center party. Joe Lieberman and Evan Bayh would be considered rightwingers in most developed social democracies of the world. The only democrats that have common cause with the actual liberal parties by international standards would be people like Barbara Lee, Bernie Sanders or Dennis Kucinich.

With regard to the corruption and the absolute subjugation of the public welfare to profit interests, I think public financing is the way to get legalized bribery out of the political system, because both parties are bought and sold by corporate interests; the democrats only to a nominally lessor degree than the repukes.

So your not left-wing until you make plans to open a new gulag?

Yes, Bernie Sanders, Barbara Lee and I secretly aspire to be Stalinists-Maoists.

LOL, that one never gets old only dude. Cons were using that line before the New Deal, and their still using it today. Well played! That line is a knee slapping, gut buster! :clink:

No, its just that you place such impossible limits, as if to say, only Stalinists are leftists... Can't everyday people's be leftists too?

You lost me with your riposte, man.

Stalin was a totalitarian.

I imagine there's some left leaning people in america who are totalitarians, but I don't know any.

I'm a lefty.

I thought I said that the international standards, were the developed social democracies of the world. That was the parameter i was using. Maybe that wasn't made clear enough. Damn, I suck!

a gross and false characterization of the Libertarian party.

No, it is not. As a card carrying member for 7 or 8 years, I finally realized how grossly mismanaged the party is, and how they hijacked the term "libertarian" to promote a largely unimportant agenda. In other words, they pick the stupidest of battles and try to recruit using those battles.

The old timers here will remember when I was blathering on and on imploring people to vote "Libertarian" for years, until I finally realized the party was inept, incompetent, and so far out of the mainstream that they would never ever amount to a hill of beans in their current form.

And don't bother with the statistics about them eclipsing all other third parties with public offices held. Dog catchers can only do so much.

Yes, I'm still a small "l" libertarian, because I believe in the philosophy without believing in the party.
