consitstency of a President

That's right...stamp those petulant little feet and call him names...that really validates your point and brings it home.

I personally don't think it will pass at this time. My congressman told me that there are approx. 15 votes to gain. This seems small, and most times might even be, but for this bill 2 votes is huge, 15 may be insurmountable.

When he told me that it was 15-20 votes I was actually quite surprised that Obama would put himself out for this like he did. However I then realized if it doesn't pass he actually still can just start over, there's many months before election time, and if the Rs try to get in the way of negotiations in good faith (not like the recent stuff done after they had already hammered out what they wanted in back rooms) that the election will look much different than is shaping up to happen currently.

I believe that if they had been open on C-Span, etc. like Obama promised so often that the opposition to this bill would be much less than it is now.

How many votes we gain depends on how many people in the Stupak bloc say that the Nelson language is acceptable. We'll also probably gain a few Blue Dogs because this is closer to what they wanted in the first place.

I think it's probably going to happen, barring the senate deciding to include a public option, which would make passage nigh-impossible.

I wish the Democrats would have read this back when they had 60 votes!

LIBERATION
Nelson Mandela quoting Marianne Williamson in his 1994 Inaugural speech

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others.

not what i'm seeing in the polls and hearing in the news. perhaps they are just 'misguided', whereas you know whats best for everyone?
They've spent a year hearing all about what is in it, Obama was on TV, two joint sessions, ads about how great it is played here locally, Ds tried to convince people it was good, they had town hall meetings, and when the Americans heard what they were offering they said, "No!" There were stories about the people they actually paid to protest "for" it and STILL people hate it.

When 75% say no, that is even your own constituency. I can't believe that more Ds on this site would be still pounding how great it is. The reality is people do not like this bill. They've learned about it, and the more they learned about it the more they've hated it.

We have only kool-ade drinkers on this site representing the Ds. It's really sad.

That's pretty one-sided.

If you think Obama's message about the health plan made it out there "clean," you're smoking something. The TEA party ruled the town halls & the media.

I'm not saying the bill is perfect, because it ain't, but many Americans came to believe the TEA disinformation campaign, because it was the loudest....

I have not seen anything where 75% say no.

Most people I talk to have no idea whats in it.

Those agaist it often cite "Death Panels"

The PR campagn against it has been fierce and misleading.

why aren't you the new king of amerika? you seem to know whats best for everyone, despite a majority of people not wanting it?

It isn't really that far down in the polls. And a significant amount of opposition comes from left-wing people who are just taking a gambit that they can get something more liberal by rejecting this. If you add up the people who want either this bill or something more radical, you'd get a majority.

http://pollingreport.com/health.htm

"As of right now, do you favor or oppose the health care reform proposals presently being discussed?"

Favor 41%
Oppose 47%
Unsure 11%

Now the interesting point is that of the 47% opposed 37% oppose because they belive it does not go far enough, they want the package to be MORE extreem...

If oppose reform proposals (N=535):

"You said you are opposed to the health care reform proposals presently being discussed. Is that because you favor health care reform overall but think the current proposals don't go far enough to reform health care; OR you oppose health care reform overall and think the current proposals go too far in reforming health care?"

Favor
Overall,
Don't Go
Far Enough ........ 37%

Oppose
Overall,
Go Too Far ....... 54%

Unsure ........ 10%

So enough to make a majority favor healthcare reform, they just want it to go further than the Democrats have gone with it.. Like maybe a Public Option.

Plus, you really get nowhere in the leadership area by abandoning your plans every time a negative poll comes out.

Remember back when they used to attack President Clinton for "blowin in the wind" with the poll numbers?
