Contraception could be free under health care law

I think we've drifted rather far from the OP......I think the original question to be considered was 'why do liberals think that things provided by the government are "free"?.......

Well, my guess would be that a little bit of "free" (as in, no direct charge to the consumer) contraception is exponentially cheaper to the taxpayer than costs incurred by many unwanted pregnancies.

Just a hunch...

Because they're so popular. Because so many people want in.

Perhaps the perfect analogy would be the Arizona border. Why does Arizona have a border problem and not, say, New York or North Dakota? :)
Are you saying nobody wants to go to New York?

Social Conservative Logic...

1. Abortion Bad in every situation.
2. Birth Control Bad.
3. Sex outside of marriage bad.
4. Masterbation Bad.
5. Marriage without the Church, not real.

So the only way to ever be sexually gratified is be married, the only way to be married is to be in good standing with a church.

You make a good point, let me chew on this. BTW, you're a damn good looking woman. I seriously didn't even know you were a woman until Prendergass put your pic up.

Anyhow, Ill chew on this.

Perspectives you know.

It's the very point the opposition never want people to consider- that's why the argument is always framed around this misconception that "abortions happen because women can't get birth control".

Voltaire made the further point that this is a way for orgs like Planned Parenthood to get more funding so that they can increase free abortions. The way the government funding is reported to the GAO is impossible to untangle as to how funding is being used...i.e is it in fact funding abortions.

your argument would have been credible if even one of those had been a true statement.....

What the left often attempts is to frame the argument in their terms by stating exaggerated or flat out false positions of the right... They still have not caught onto the fact of how obvious they are.

what about rape and incest or where the guy pressures the woman not to use a condom...

In almost all cases of rape where the victim seeks care she has a rape kit proccessed on her. During this time if there was vaginal penetration she can have the Morning After Pill prescribed to her if she wishes.

Again, what you describe is the rare reason a woman might seek an abortion-

The discussion was about birth control. A woman should not be in a position to depend on a man to do the right thing... If women want their sexual freedom then ought they not take resposnibility for said freedom?

so it is ok for men to have sexual freedom without responsibility?

If the woman wants to avoid pregnancy should she depend on a man to make sure she doesn't get pregnant?

Back to the issue- which is free birth control for those who can afford to buy it....

no, however, i would still want the man to be prepared

ok, i am for it - the more people that understand and use birth control the better - or as the boy scout motto goes, be prepared

So now you are equating free birth control with people understanding it and using it? As if before it was free they did not know what it its use is for and so didn't buy it? Again- birth control is already free to those who cannot afford it-forcing Americans to pay for birth control for those who can afford to buy their own is unwaranted socialistic theft!

If women want their sexual freedom? What the fuck does that even mean?

I remember well the Republican outrage about the Medicare prescription drug benefit coverage Viagra and other ED drugs and the claims that President Bush and the Republican Congress were a bunch of Socialists, don't you?
