Depressions follow wars. Usually during them the economy booms bigtime. Even in Germany in WW 2 as the country was bombed into rubble the economy expanded to late 1944. After Germany surrendered, the economy crashed and crashed bad. Same in the UK. Neither really fully recovered until about the 1970's and in the UK Socialism added about 10 to 15 years to their recovery time.War would cause The Greatest Depression Ever. For the whole world.
The Soviet Union was the same way. Once the war ended, the economy crashed. The difference was Stalin didn't give a shit and let people starve. He also let his military loot Eastern Europe, particularly Germany, to no end to keep things afloat. Then he continued massive military spending that further crushed the economy along with Socialist programs.
In the US, the economy boomed like never before. The US, alone, came out of WW 2 largely unscathed and was the world's food and industrial supplier. Until other economies started to really fully recover, the US was making bank off the misery and ruins of other nations.
