This is bullshit. I work with both single mothers and the men who are being sought for child support by the state. When a woman signs up for public assistance they ask the fathers name. If she knows who the baby daddy is the state goes after him for child support to use it to offset any assistance she is getting. we probably have 20 male clients being actively pursued for child support right now and about 5 or six women going for child support on thier own, because if you don't receive public assistance you don't get the states help in getting child support.

Allegations my ass. If a man says he is not the father they court orders a paternity test and in every state I know of the loser of the paternity test pays. Meaning if the woman said a man is the father and she is not the court orders her to pay for the test. I have had a female client go to jail for failing to pay for the DNA test when she was wrong.

Soc, don't most states have some sort of period after which paternity cannot be challenged? What if a guy finds reason to suspect years after the fact?

My understanding is that if he signs the birth certificate and finds out later on that he isn't the father, he's basically screwed and will have to still pay child support. Which is basically criminal in my opinion.
