Keziah Ridgeway says she's the only teacher she knows in Philadelphia who teaches critical race theory in public high school -- and she teaches it in her anthropology class, as one framework among many to understand human cultures. But she also teaches African American history, and that's what she thinks the frenzy over critical race theory (CRT) is really about.

"Critical race theory is a lens, right? It's not being taught in schools," Ridgeway says. It's a theory for understanding the interaction of race and the law, and is mostly taught in graduate school, not elementary school. But conservatives are using the phrase to mean any instruction about the role of race in America, past or present.

Yes, we talk about whites but the second you mention privilege or White behavior you are labeled a leftist.

I don't feel marginalized. I find that amusing. I feel challenged as a human to do a better. I want to be part of the solution. We can point fingers it doesn't fix anything. I am willing to challenge myself to ensure I am treating others with dignity and respect. I can challenge myself to be more empathetic.

I am doing well. My family is doing well. I am a big believer of being part of a society. Just looking to be better.

You haven't always treated people with dignity and respect? I'm not not sure what kind of house you grew up in but if I was disrespectful to anyone no matter the color of their skin my father would have lost a boot up my ass. When I was 9 or 10 I was at the airport with my parents and a sky cap wasbthere picking up our bags. I went to help and he told me to leave it because that was his job, I said "Yes, sir". The sky cap shook my father's hand. This idea that we need to "change" is fucking bullshit.

My father taught me to treat people based on their behavior not how they look. The rest is bullshit. If you act like an animal you should be treated like animal
