The critical race theory panic has White people afraid that they might be complicit in racism

Ridgeway seemed somewhat amused but mostly exasperated by these claims. Is she teaching children to hate America? "No, I'm teaching children to question America. And that's what makes a good patriot." Is she teaching White kids to hate themselves for being White? "No." Is she teaching Black kids that there's nothing they can do to improve their situation? "Absolutely not." Because racism exists and they can never fight it, so they should give up? "Absolutely not. I'm creating little free thinkers and resistors and future politicians and lawyers and teachers and change-makers."

I think that's definitely a component of it, but I think the other component to it is that CRT challenges the myth of exceptionalism that those people rely on to justify their complacency.

Their accomplishments mean a lot less if it turns out that they had significant, structural assistance in order to achieve...there goes the "rugged individualist" they all like to cosplay.

Well then, they are delusional. Anyone who supposes they are unaffected by their environs, whether it be the effect of gravity or societal preference they enjoy is basically delusional beyond cure.
