Let me share how to analyze that photo.

Look carefully at the the people. Most appear to be with a loved one right nearby. Couples and families. Between each group is a patch of sand. They are mostly spaced out the best they can.

The ht of the average human is slightly less than 6'. Picture how each of those humans would look when laid down on the sand. That is roughly the distance between the groups. Look at how much sand there is between the groups and picture those figures laying down. Mostly, it is enough spacing.

Another way:

Looks like everybody is pretty much spread out fairly equally. More down by the water than up by the dunes, yes.

Estimate the square footage of beach we are looking at. Count the humans. Calculate the estimated area in which the humans are distributed. Divide out to see how many square feet per human.

I think you will find most of the spacing is over 6'.

The photo makes it look like they are more jammed up together than they really are. We are looking at several hundred yards of beach. How many humans are there?

And no doubt the photo was taken just after they opened up the beach, right when everybody had just poured out there and before they had a chance to spread out more. Look at how long the shadows are. Not very long. The beach opened at 5PM. Photo must have been taken just as the crowds were swarming out there. It won't be like that all the time. Any breeze blowing also reduces the chance of transmission. If any transmission occurs it's not enough to impart a sufficient viral load to cause the illness. Strong immune system of the recipient will make short work of a minimal infection.

I'm gonna take a watch and wait attitude to this one. We will know in a few weeks. The data won't lie.

Another grossly ignorant claim. By code, public buildings have intricate HVAC systems. Couple that with the lines of coolers that are moving the air in the store. There is no 'stagnant' air in the grocery store. And in NY, there is a limit to the number of people in any store at any given time, and there is a specific social distancing requirement at the register.

The beach is the LAST place you can catch Covid. If you're that concerned about people spreading it, rally to shut down the grocery stores where people are packed in and lined up like cattle. That's the place to catch it, guar-on-teed.

To address your points, none of that matters since people will not constantly maintain six feet of distance from each other....especially kids. They'll have chance close encounters at the trash, in the porta-potty line, up the stairs off the beach, parking lot, etc.

Again, I support their freedom to do so but I think it's an unnecessary risk for someone my age (mid-60s).

OTOH, when all the young become infected with the sniffles and pass it along to their parents and grandparents, it's a 50/50 chance they'll collect their inheritance sooner rather than later. So, win for some, loss for others. Life goes on.

I'm not the one claiming to be a Buddhist nor does my knowledge of Buddhist lifestyle alter the validity of my comment.

You can't infer things about others by their posting style? I can't believe that to be true. If it is true, then I am very sorry to read you cannot.

It depends on how many of people within a square footage of oneself. The problem isn't inside or outside, but a chance contact with an infected person. As mentioned previously, it's their choice, but since there is no guarantee of avoiding an infected person. Kids are most likely to become infected first since they don't play by the rules very well. Still, individual freedom comes with individual responsibility.

May I add that a quick grocery store run would be considered essential but a day at the beach not so much.

At the beach, tiny particles in the air have ventilation and the winds pull them away. Grocery stores are far, far more likely to infect someone with Covid. The aerosolized germs can hang in the air for hours.

Masks are not needed outside, especially at the beach. The whole thing is absurd. This truly is common sense.
