Police said a 1-year-old boy died after he and his father were shot by a teenager on a bicycle.

Police Capt. Phillip Tingirides told KCAL-TV that the teen rode the bike past the 24-year-old father and boy as they stood on a sidewalk in front of a home in Watts and fired several rounds Monday evening.

Tingirides said the toddler was hit once in the torso and the father was hit once in the shoulder.

Police say a 15 to 17-year-old African American boy fired several shots at the Hispanic father and the child as he rode past them on a bicycle. The neighborhood did see a number of fatal shootings between rival Hispanic and black gangs last year, so police think this shooting may have been gang related.
