D.C.'s Marion Barry arrested again

in all fairness to all parties involved, it was a unanimous decision, not just warrens. IMO, one of the best opinions ever written by a USSC.

I like you so much better when you're sane. :0)

I agree, with the caveat that Warren's appointment signaled the beginning of the end of overt racism .. and the other Justices recognized that.

Stalking charges dropped against Marion Barry

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal prosecutors have dropped charges against former Washington Mayor Marion Barry, who was accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend.

U.S. Park Police arrested the current D.C. councilman on Saturday on a stalking charge after they said a woman complained she was being stalked.

Barry's lawyer denied the allegations and said Barry was arrested on the way home from a meal with the woman, Donna Watts-Brighthaupt. Watts-Brighthaupt earlier this week also released a statement that appeared to deny she had accused him of stalking.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Wednesday that it would not pursue the stalking charges after reviewing evidence.

Of course the charges were dropped, OB is not going to have one of the hero's of D.C. go to prison. Besides being black, stupid and on crack is the best defense.

I bet you think that was "shocking."

Unbeknowst to you, most African-Americans were republican during that era.

In the south, where he lived, King fought against democrats .. or more aptly put, dixiecrats. It was southern dixiecrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws.

It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation.

That all began to change when Nixon embarked on his "southern strategy" and openly courted racist scum.

As for the rest of your ill-thought out comment ...

There you go .. a free history lesson.

I taught you the real history on this going back to the Radical Republicans. Anyone that thinks that the GOP would suddenly reverse course after fighting for of Civil Rights for 100 years obviously didn't learn very well.

Man, whole lot of racism on this thread.

So your position, after reading about this for 30 seconds on the Drudge Report and becoming an expert on the facts of the case, is the Berry is guilty no matter what? He's guilty when he's arrested, and he's also guilty when the charges are dropped?

What would you neocons do without democratic superstar Marion Berry?

Do you live in a perpetual partisan fog, or is this just an act?

For someone who claims to be a Southern Man, he sure is ignorant about what went on in the South at critical times in history.

You know your history lesson is wasted upon willfully ignorant neocon parrots, don't you? But hope springs eternal!

Ho-hum, looks like The Southern Man has to repeat this post for the junior poster:

The Radical Republicans (radical = change) were the leading political force during the time of Lincoln through the Reconstruction period. With strong belief in the 1783 Constitutional language that all men are created equal, they campaigned to enhance freedom through free market economics. During this time, the northern states were majority Republican and had established a vibrant free market society. The majority Democrats in the south maintained a European model of an upper class minority supported by cheap labor of black slavery and poor whites.

In 1862 the Radical Republicans literally went to war against slavery with support of the moderate President Lincoln. After the Civil War and slavery was finally abolished, the southern Democrats kept the lower classes in line by limiting civil rights. The strong Republican majority in congress overrode a veto from Democrat President Andrew Johnson for the first time in US history and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1868. The racist Johnson then refused to enforce it.

Republicans passed the Civil Rights act of 1875, which was struck down by the Democrat majority Supreme Court in 1883. Republicans tried again in 1957, watering down a Civil Rights Act to overcome stiff Democrat opposition. 1960 brought a third Republican Civil Rights Act, pushed through after nearly a week long Democrat filibuster.

President John Kennedy became the first Democrat President to embrace the conservative ideals of the Radical Republicans. Democrat President Lyndon Johnson, who himself grew up impoverished in the South, pushed his party further, and supported the Republican sponsored 1964 Civil Rights Act. This Act was essentially a re-writing of the 1875 legislation, and was passed against chief opponents Albert Gore Sr. and a 14 hour filibuster by former Klansman Robert Byrd, still a Democrat senator to this day. Johnson was instrumental in strengthening the Act in 1968.

After loosing a 181 year long battle against the conservative free market ideals of the Radical Republicans, the Liberal Democrats have changed tactics. They have stolen the entrepreneurial spirit of the African Americans and poor whites by creating programs of entitlements, preferential treatment and dead end government employment.

Our last Republican President George W. Bush has defined this new Democrat tactic as “soft bigotry.”

No one gives a $hit about Marion Barry. The way this guy has dropped off into insignificance probably means he set himself up so he could get some press coverage.

The only thing he is is an embarassment to the Democratic Party and if Dems say he isn't, then they're liars.

Notice that this lengthy "quote" of his has no source link....also, it refers to "radical republicans", which has no historical record as a political party or movement. And then there's the nod to that fool the Shrub...as if his opinion matters on anything given his record. Essentially, this is a neocon revision of history which in the last 20 years has tried to ignore the changes within both parties and solely blame the Democratic party en for slavery, while exonnerating the Republican party and it's fundamental changes in the last century. Fortunately, the truth is out there

Blackascoal's points were spot on....something Southie tried to circumnavigate (he failed again). His (or her) constant display of willful ignorance and slavish devotion to the neocon mantras is to be pitied.

Radical Republicans, Liberal Republicans, Dixiecrats, neocons, bluedog democrats....okay I get it. I stand corrected as to them being a movement.

My point was that they were NOT an official, separate political party....rather they were internal factions, as you point out.

Other than this, the two sources I provide historically contradict what Southie's unsourced material states on many points. I suggest you follow your own advice and read them, to see why I'm correct.

I don't care about your argument or Southern Man's. I saw a factual innaccuracy and I corrected it because I have knowledge of the subject.

You're welcome.

What I don't get is the attitude you cop....especially since we've haven't had any exchanges. I could see if I was wrong and stubborn....and proud about that. That not being the case, relax.

2. TaiChiLiberal Pwned on Radical Republicans. Not quite, my willfully ignorant neocon parrot. See my response to Epicurus on this thread, and Watermarks observation.
3. Democrat Party is solely responsible for slavery.

Not quite....if you thoroughly read the entire Constitution and when the first slaves arrived. The only thing you Pwned is your proud ignorance.
