And hypocricy's new name is Paul Dee's...

In defense of Miami Tuesday...

"We did all the things we thought were appropriate," Dee said. "But the things you can control are the things you have your hands on -- like grades, discipline on campus, financial aid. But when you get further out, when you get to a booster who has decided to do something inappropriate, you have less control, because they are out in the environment and we're not there."

Really?

I don't think we'll see the Death Penalty because of the damages seen from giving it to SMU. Plus that screws up the entire ACC.

I have heard them talking about all the athletes that got shit, and that will get them nailed. But what is going to kill Thug U is that Shapiro almost got into a fist fight with the compliance guy, the compliance guy complained and pointed out stuff Shapiro was doing, and Shapiro was still invited to high-level athletic functions, had a lounge in the dorm named after him, and the U accepted a $5ok donation. That screams lack of institutional control.

Miami will be at the bottom of the ACC for the next decade.

I think the thing to be learned from these investigations is don't do the stupid stunt that USC pulled and not cooperate with the NCAA investigation.

USC had one player, Reggie Bush, whose family took money. They took money not from a booster but from two felons in San Diego with no connection to USC who wanted to start a player rep agency. That earned us a two year bowl ban and 30 lost scholarships. Miami had a booster give benefits to 72 players. That should equal about close to a century bowl ban and loss of some 500 to 1,000 scholarships.

USC's scope of punishment had just as much to do with their non-cooperation with the investigation as the actual infactions. If Miami cooperates with the investigation then they will not recieve the same level of sanctions as USC did. Neither will Ohio State for that matter which is nickle and dime compared to USC and Miami. OSU's worst mistake was Tressel lied about the improper benefits. His firing and their subsequent cooperation and self imposed sanctions means they won't see anything close to the sanctions that USC recieved and Miama would be very wise to take heed of that.

Yep, Miami is the modern day SMU. But does anyone expect the death penalty?

No. Read an article this morning that compared Miami's situation to SMU and it's not nearly as aggregous as SMU's situation was.

Not as bad as, but far worse than USC or OSU. Miami's was rampant and the administration knew about it.

How can players selling their trophies so they can get the latest tattoo be so bad? They should of went the U and they would be able to get their whole body tattoed.

What is going to kill Miami is not the players getting cash, boat rides and blowjobs. It is that the university compliance officer and Shapiro almost coming to blows in the press box during a game. The compliance officer started asking questions and looking into this "shady character" and recommended the U distance themselves from him. It was AFTER that they accepted $50k from him, named a lounge in the athletic dorm for him ect ect ect.

The admin knew what was going on.

These guys were fearless to the consequences. But since someone mentioned that we have a Clinton Cronnie involved this doesn't suprise me at all.

Miami has been Thug U for decades. This is not a surprise.

The NCAA cannot ignore what happened. The best they can hope for is to delay the ruling long enough for the press coverage to die down. But that didn't work well for USC.

Miami isn't going to be worth a shit for 10 years.
