Iraq's Leader says the Iraqi Police and Army can handle security, anytime we want to leave.

Damn. That talking point about how we supposedly had to stay to "prevent a civil war", sounded pretty good for a while.

NeoCons? Why aren't we withdrawing? Or, do you have another talking point in your back pocket?

Iraq Prime Miniter Malaki: Country can manage without U.S.

By BASSEM MROUE, Associated Press Writer Sat Jul 14, 6:22 PM ET

BAGHDAD - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki shrugged off U.S. doubts of his government's military and political progress on Saturday, saying Iraqi forces are capable and American troops can leave "any time they want."

Seems to me that when the democratically elected leader of a sovern nation says they can handle it , well we should leave.

yeah I saw that on PBS a while ago.

But if we go, how will Halliburton make their share of the billions borrowed from China that will cause our grandchildren's taxes to be spent primarily on interest on the debt?

Talk about giving our kids a shit sandwich.

What will your response be when we leave and Iraq really breaks into all hell?

Hey, I love my grandparents to death and I would die for them today. They also gave my generation social security which will not be around when I retire. But I have the pleasure of giving up a portion of my paycheck to pay for the "baby boomers" today.

In all seriousness, this is a PERFECT opportunity for us to leave on our terms. Donald Trump, who I tend to loathe, had one of the best ideas I have heard for Iraq months ago: just declare victory, and leave. We've been staying in large part because we don't want to give terrorists a "victory" by "retreating." Now, we don't have to; we've helped organize a government that now says they are ready to take the reigns, and our work here is done.

Naturally, they won't, because we all know that it wasn't going to be when Iraqis decided it was time for us to go. If nothing else, Bush really is the "decider"...

Exactly!, this admin doesnt give a shit about America or Americans they are in it for the new world order where the Corps rule through economic strongarming.

I will say;"It was expected", but will happen regardless of when we leave. It isd just a delaying tactic

Ok, but what will happen? It's not a rhetorical question. Will Iraq eventually be able to work it out internally or are other countries going to come in and get more involved?

Exactly what many middle east experts warned you about four years, ago before you invaded.

I'm not a Colin Powell fan, but he basically has it right - it's going to be resolved by a test of arms between sunni and shia...and the U.S. can't really do anything to stop it:

COLIN POWELL, July 2007:

“I tried to avoid this war…I took him (Bush) through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.”

“The civil war will ultimately be resolved by a test of arms…It’s not going to be pretty to watch, but I don’t know any way to avoid it. It is happening now.”

“It is not a civil war that can be put down or solved by the armed forces of the United States.” All the military can do, Powell suggested, is put “a heavier lid on this pot of boiling sectarian stew”.

“We have to face the reality of the situation that is on the ground and not what we would want it to be.”

“America’s volunteer army is already overstretched. Bush will be forced to face the situation on the ground and alter course by the end of this year.”

“Al-Qaeda is only 10% of the problem in Iraq and Nouri al-Maliki (prime minister) lacks the political will to establish an effective government.”

On Syria and Iran: “You have to talk to the people you dislike most in this dangerous world.”

“Shi’ites will ultimately prevail because they are 60% of the population and their militias can be pretty violent. They will prevail also because they are determined not to be ruled again by the Sunnis.”

“The Sunnis are struggling for power and survival and it’s going to be resolved by a test of arms. It’s going to be very ugly.”

Hell yeah....!

Hey, if their PM says that it is fine and we can up and out any time.... I say, let's pack up.

Personally I think it is all bluster, but isn't this just what we've been waiting for?

Then we can concentrate on Iran and Syria the real problemos....:corn:

I haven't the slightest dfoubt that the three factions will NEVER be able to agree on a reasonable coolition Government. Thus the Northern part will become a new Kurdistan, perthaps as part of a new nation combined with portions of Turkey. The other two factions will continue to war between themselves.

What will your response be when we leave and Iraq really breaks into all hell?
Iraq is going to break into unholy hell no matter when we leave. Doesn't matter whether we leave tomorrow, next year or 20 years from now. It's broken and we can't fix it.

May as well get it done sooner rather than later. That will get the healing process started sooner too.
