Personally, I, like most Americans, value free speech more than any other right that’s self-evident and inherent in any free person. I’d die to defend it, as many would. I don’t doubt
@Damocles love for free speech or America, but I believe people have a responsibility to speak out, act, and defeat pure evil when they can. I’m sure many here saw Hume’s disgusting thread, “I hope these political assassinations happen more often,” referring to the cowardly assassination of Charlie Kirk. I can’t see how anyone can argue that statement isn’t a direct call for more violence. Don’t be cute by saying the word “hope” covers his ass. It’s clear he means it, and in his sick mind, if he had the balls, he’d be on the next rooftop pulling the trigger.
I’ll keep it simple. I like the free-for-all nature of what Damo has created and/or maintained here, precisely because people aren’t banned, no matter how horrible the insults or terrible the ideas, with a very understandable firm stance on perverts and porn. That said, with all the political violence we’re now in the midst of, I believe any decent person has a moral responsibility to limit extreme rhetoric like Hume’s comment. I would’ve permanently banned him instantly and reported him to the FBI. I did the latter but obviously can’t ban Hume.
Is Damo right to allow statements like Hume’s? Would doing so somehow limit the free exchange of ideas? If so, how? Who would be limited? The mentally ill? It’s not a mental illness? Explain. If hoping for more assassinations of anyone for their political or spiritual beliefs isn’t a mental illness, what is it? It’s not normal and a clear indicator of just how radical the scumbag is. Again, Damo owns this site and takes a hard line on perverts and porn. Is that just for legal reasons, or is there a moral element? I’d like to think the latter, but I call that into question by his silence and inaction on Hume’s disgusting thread.
I’m relatively new here, so maybe comments like this have been allowed for a long time with plenty of examples of similar threads going without consequence, I don’t know, you tell me. If so, I still say it’s time to make a change and grow a pair. This isn’t about free speech, it’s about doing what’s right, period. Who decides what’s right? Well, the ownership’s a great place to start. What say you, Damo? I say it's definitely time for a new hardline rule about promoting political violence on his site. That rule would not diminish any sane conversations or debates from happening here, period.
As for the rest of you, feel free to comment and spew your usual bullshit, that’s fine. I only care about Damo’s response. I’ve been wondering what goes through his mind or if it even troubles him at all. If not, I’ve lost respect for Damo. I’m sure he doesn’t care, but I’m hopeful his answer might restore a bit of it, if that’s possible.
