First of all, Dano, Social Security shouldn't have been in your little rant on spending, as it doesn't come from The General Fund. It is a specifically SEPARATE entity.
Second, all of the welfare related things you put forth are rolled into "Health and Human Services", which is the biggest expense in The General Fund, followed by Defense, and then "Department of Treasury" (mostly interest paid ON the federal debt)
The one thing you SHOULD be screaming about is how much we pay to service that debt. We get absolutely nothing for that money.
Bush and his Republican lackeys leave us this, as part of their ridiculous "legacy"
Total Public Debt Outstanding
2001: 5,806,151,389,190.21
2007: 9,062,552,400,356.63
Does anyone remember the fight over what to do with a budget surplus left over from Clinton's last year in office? Democrats fought to use it to PAY DOWN THE FEDERAL DEBT.
Republicans argued "GIVE IT BACK TO THE PEOPLE".
The fact is, NEITHER actually happened. The whole tax rebate was a scam. Those who got one had to deduct it from the following year's tax return. So, the debt wasn't paid down, the people weren't reimbursed, AND the money STILL disappeared.
Gotta love Republican run government.
