"The parents of more than 2,300 Prince George's County students who failed to get needed vaccinations could face fines of $50 a day and up to 10 days in jail if their children do not meet the state's immunization requirements, county officials said yesterday.

The threat of legal action is a last resort after months in which Prince George's has struggled to get its 131,000 students immunized for chicken pox and hepatitis B, as mandated by the state. More than 2,300 students have not been immunized and have been barred from attending schools, almost two months after a Sept. 20 deadline for meeting the requirement.

Wow, these people are crazy. What is the big deal if kids don't get chicken pox vaccinations? They will just get the chicken pox as many of us did and miss a bit of school. THAT is worth police coming to parents doors, taking them away and locking them up?

Parents decide what is best for their kids, not government.
 
It's a public health problem. It's not an individual decision. It hurts more than just the individual who refuses to be responsible and get vaccinated.
 
Not an individual decision? I thought I lived in the land of the free; perhaps I was lied to my whole life about what this country was founded on. We've gone over 200 years as a nation without a vaccine for chicken pox. I remember when I missed school when I caught them. What is the big deal? They are going to throw the parents in jail for ten (10) days for not getting their own kids vaccinated for a malady that lasts only five? What is the point, other than the government once again telling us what we have to do to live 'free?'

Its nobody's right to force unnecessary vaccines on children.
 
The problem I have with this is a) its a gift horse to big pharma b) it assumes that vaccinations are 100% safe and I completely sympathesize with parents who'd want to hold off and see what the effects are on the general population before giving it to their kids. I know I personally don't use anything new to market and would be hesitant to give my child something that was relatively new unless the situation was serious.
 
Exactly.. i have friends that are completely convinced that there kids turned autistic based on the accumulation of to many vaccines. There are thousands of people who feel this way.. You going to threaten to put me in jail if i don't put give my kid a hepatitis shot? I say FUCK YOU

Well, I think the parents should say "bring it". He can't arrest them all. It would be interesting to see him try to put away arresting officers as well.
 
naa just claim u cant vaccinate for religious reasons. create a congregation of more then 2 people and say vaccinations are evil..
 
Vaccinations have helped tremendously in eliminating a lot of debilitating diseases and I would probably opt to have my kids vaccinated but to put people in jail or even fine them for having credible reservations is unethical.

I get him the important ones. but not all the pharmaceutical driven add ons. Flu, Chickenpox, Hepatitis, HPV.. rubbish.
Also I have him on alternative schedules that spreads shit out more. sure each one is probably safe but when they get to many in to short a time probably not so good.
 
Chap - A few words to the wise: labor specialization is a good thing. While it is wise to be a knowledgeable consumer, supplanting your untrained medical judgment for that of physicians and public health specialists isn't usually the best course of action.

chicken pox is not a public health problem, lol everyone gets them i got them dano got them damo got them its no big deal.
