She's frustrated for the same reasons we are. She said she felt the administration didn't understand the science enough to make those statements. She was particularly frustrated with the fact that, according to her, the White House participated in a softball game with a pro-legalization group....But she said her lowest point in 33 years in the DEA was when she learned they'd flown a hemp flag over the Capitol on July 4. The sheriffs were all shocked. This is the first time in 28 years I’ve ever heard anyone in her position be this candid.

Kern County, California, Sheriff Donny Youngblood, president of the Major Counties Sheriffs' Association, the group Leonhart addressed, confirmed that she "called out Obama for what Youngblood described as 'irresponsible' comments that were a 'big slap in the face' to cops who have lost their lives keeping drugs off the street." He said she received a standing ovation.

what the fuck is there to be shocked about? There is no way someone could be so stupid. I really have to wonder about the motives of those high up in our government.

The lowest point being a hemp flag being flown? The idealogical lockstep on this issue for those in the DEA is bizarre.

I'm so happy someone else reads Reason.

But yeah, the DEA should be scared. It'd signal the end of their agency and therefore their jobs (which should be put to an end).

they still have plenty of other drugs to chase. They are beyond irrational at this point. The lowest point is a hemp flag being flown?? Really???

Not really. Far fewer do the other drugs and I am fairly certain the number will decrease with the legalization of marijuana.

Meanwhile, police unions in California have blocked all attempts to better regulate medical marijuana because they know it will reduce the federal raids. I am not sure if they are doing it for job security or just because most cops are authoritarian right wing dicks but they are clearly a political obstacle.

You haven't vested your life and career in their ideological war. It's just like Iraq. Since the US has left many locations in which US soldier died to remove insurgents have been taken over by those very same insurgents. Those who were vested in that immoral war feel that we should send more soldier to die to remove those insurgents in order to honor those American soldiers who died removing the insurgents in the first place. And yes, this is circular reasoning of the dumbest kind but that's what happens when people become vested in a cause.

so the question is,

is she stupid, or a liar?
Oh she's definitely being intellectually dishonest. I wouldn't call her a liar but her answers were an intellectually dishonest attempt at avoiding answering his questions. You could see it in her eyes that while she was choosing her words carefully that she knew her answers were dishonest.

...amazing how often knowing human behavior will let you know the truth of a situation.
