Defense Of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional By Second Federal Judge

Bravo.......*Yawn*....another dodge. Just get down to it and explain to us how it demeans your marriage, or don't, you're wasting our time and bandwidth. Either marriage meets with your approval (sanctified by your particular religion) or not (any marriage outside your belief system) and you want that in law. You won't or can't explain anything beyond that it seems.

Thats very true and absolutely irrelevant.....WB wanted to know what it means, ie. its origin...why is marriage believed to blessed by most believers ....

The words "sanctity" and "blessed" have no real meaning to non-believers.....

Wrong. The question refers to how sanctity applies to marriage generally. That would include my marriage, which has fuck-all to do with how anyone defines sanctity, including the Bible and its fan club.

Furthermore, 'blessed' and 'sanctity' aren't interchangeable. Look them up.

Finally, it's up to me and my spouse to determine what is sacred about our marriage, and we don't need religion, Christianity, the Bible or God to give it sacred value to us, nor does anyone else's marriage and how they define it for themselves have any effect whatsover on mine.

What a surprise...yet ANOTHER dodge.

All you homophobes can do is CLAIM gay marriage will destroy the sanctity of marriage, but not a ONE OF YOU ever seems to say precisely HOW that will come about.

Just google "the sanctity of marriage" and find out all about the Biblical aspects of marriage....and why the believers say it is blessed.....its a religious thing

You can't expect someone to re-write you an essay on the religious aspects of marriage and the teachings of Christ, can you....

If its something you want to know about ..... its on line for you to read at your leisure....

Christ certainly didn't intend that marriage be anything but between a man an a women.....and called the union 'blessed'.....and I never read the Bible in my life and don't intent do.....

Sanctimonious people want to force their backwards-thinking bullshit on all of us.

What's wrong?

So you can't post a link to a page that helps explain why you feel gay marriage will destroy the sanctity of marriage?

Not a problem...but from now on whenver you ask me for a cite, I will remind you of your refusal to oblige others when they asked.

Sanctimonious people want to force their backwards-thinking bullshit on all of us.

Your opinion of religious people is irrelevant......you want to know WHY marriage is thought to be "BLESSED" or has SANCTITY" by believers, I'm trying to tell
why and where to read all about it.....
I don't give a poop how you view or ridicule the believers, thats none of my business....

So you actually admit you've NEVER READ THE BIBLE, yet you presume to tell others what Christ intended regarding marriage?

WOW

...just...WOW!

I don't have a link....you can google just like everyone else to learn things.....

I'm just saying the according to believers, Christ didn't intend that marriage be anything but a union between a man an a women.....and called the union 'blessed'.

I think it might be in Genesis but I ain't gonna scour the Bible for you or anyone else.....its just another book to me.....

The only thing that's funny is your avoidance of my last question.... AND your pretend ignorance.

I'll tell you what. Go on record as stating that no Christian has ever explained to you how gays & lesbians can destroy the sanctity of marriage, and I'll give my answer. You too, Zappster. ;)

It doesn't matter what I've heard from whom prior to right now.

I am asking YOU...AGAIN...to explain yourself...so far you haven't been able to.

Wrong again. The definitions of religious people about what is "blessed" and has "sanctity" are being used to deny the rights of gays to marry. They're not just talking about their own marriages. They want to define it for everyone, and use the definition to DENY the right to gays. I don't need to 'read all about it', I already have. That's why I have the low opinion of 'believers' that I do.

I love the way you try to put words in the mouths of others in a lame attempt to win a debate......its the one trait common to the left that they all have and use .

I never read the book and don't have a clue what Christ meant by his words or even if they are his words......thats for you to study and determine on your own.....

I don't give a shit what you believe, I just informed you where you can find out more information to your question.....

and again your opinion is irrelevant....and no more valid than 10's of millions of other opinions.....

Whatever floats you boat sonny.....write you own Bible then....that old one is 2000 years old and could use a new version if you need one at all....I don't

Not according the second federal judge in the OP, it isn't....

Don't need a bible. I don't need the afterlife bullshit promise in order to compel me to live with honor and respect for other creatures. Apparently you do.

prediction: somehow this has got to go to SCOTUS, we can't have this mishmash of Federal/State laws. If I were King ( a SCOTUS judge) i'd look at it as equal protection, and sweep away this arcane idea.

Chris was not a homophobe...

Homophobe, huh?

Thats funny coming from the lefties.....

I see on this site dozens of posts about "what would Jesus do"......"Jesus was a liberal" and so on.....

You want to claim the dude as one of yours when it fits your agenda and throw him under the bus when it don't......

Hypocritical ???....Absolutely.

Here's what I found:

A reasonable synonym of "sanctity of marriage" is "holy matrimony." Traditionally, marriage vows read (paraphrased, as couples are usually free to cite their own vows) "Let this man and this woman be united before God and let no man put asunder"; i.e. they put the sanctity of their union in the hands of a higher power, and let no earthly being destroy that union, unless they ask a court of law to destroy it.

However, judging by the "reasonably close to actual" 50% divorce rate, as stated on the website divorcerate.org, there is no 'sanctity' of the marriage anymore. Too many people, apparently, get married for the 'wrong' reasons. "Sanctity" is defined as holiness, or sacredness, and apparently, not enough people hold their marriages to that standard. So, using this concept, 'sanctity of marriage' is whatever the married persons hold it up to be.

"Marriage is a wonderful institution. But who would want to live in an institution?"--Henry Mencken

Answer 2:
Sanctity of marriage is the idea of the sacredness of marriage. Marriage is one of the holiest of relations two people can have. Therefore, marriage is not something to be entered into lightly. Further, once you are in a marriage, you must work hard to make it work. You have to treat it as sacred, and spend time making it work, no matter the cost.

The greatest threat to the sanctity of marriage is lack of respect for it, thus leading to degeneration of the marriage, and often divorce (in the US). Giving up on a marriage is considered sacrilegious and selfish. Sanctity of marriage is not subjective, and to be interpreted at the whims of people who have found it too hard or too difficult. The sanctity of marriage demands personal sacrifice.

Actually, It don't have much to do with Constitutional rights....but I guess, they can spin it and fudge it a little.....

Homos don't just want equal treatment ..... on taxes, adoption, healthcare, etc.......they want "marriage" ....not a civil union that gives the very
same treatment and benefits, they want it to be called MARRIAGE.....its nothing more than an attack on religion from a new direction.....
If marriage and a civil union treats everyone exactly the same it should make no difference what you call it....but it does to them....
