— Disgraced former Mayor Bob Filner received three months of home confinement and three years of probation in a sentencing hearing Monday, the final chapter in Filner’s stunning fall following from his repeated inappropriate sexual behavior toward women.
The sentencing by Superior Court Judge Robert Trentacosta came after Filner pleaded guilty in October to one felony charge of false imprisonment and two misdemeanor charges of battery. The former 10-term congressman will also have to seek mental health treatment, surrender a portion of his pension and be prohibited from seeking or holding public office until he finishes probation.
The terms were part of a plea deal Filner reached with prosecutors.
Filner, who appeared rested and in good spirits at the hearing, spoke briefly to the judge and apologized.
“Filner demeaned his victims. He humiliated them. He scared them. He embarrassed them. He sexualized and devalued them. And he did all of this with the power and influence of the public office he held," Mandel said. "Filner sold himself to voters as a champion of civil rights, but his pattern of abusing women reveals a very different person than the one he claimed to be. His hypocrisy deepened the wounds he inflicted on both the victims and the people he claimed to represent.”
