Democrat speaker dies

You're so full of shit that it even stinks through the computer screen. Liberals loved Foley! What fools like you don't understand is that before Gingrich and his fucking ignorance there were such a thing as moderate Republicans who a liberal like Foley would actually compromise with. Compromise wasn't a horrible word back then. People in Congress actually worked for the good of the country, unlike you ignorant teabaggers with your my way or the highway attitude. If you don't know shit, you probably shouldn't post a fucked story from that stupid fucking source. And show you don't know shit!

Typical stupid, childish, leftie, remark from a typical stupid, childish, leftie.

I think Foley ascended to the Speaker's position almost by acclamation, so he certainly wasn't hated by any of the other Democratic members! This story is like most shit that big bowel movement posts, nothing but fabrications and lies. As I also noted there were actually moderate REpublicans before 1994, after 1994 they became persona non grata in the Republican ranks and were effectively swept out of office until now no Republican dare reach across the aisle else they get marginalized, banished, and primaried by the tea party!

Typical stupid, childish, leftie, remark from a typical stupid, childish, leftie.

Typical fucking fucked up news channel truth! They can't even get the picture correct but we are supposed to believe that they don't have their heads up their asses when it comes to their propaganda! What a bunch of fucking losers! And all you righties fall right in line. And he was a Democratic Speaker not a democrat speaker you fucking ignorant yahoos!

He worked and sometimes clashed with the new Republican president, George H.W. Bush, to deal with the deficits left over from the Reagan presidency, ultimately playing a key role in persuading Bush to put “tax revenue increases” on the table.

Many Democrats saw that as a breach of Bush’s “no new taxes” campaign pledge.

Foley disagreed: “I thought Democrats should be respectful of a president rising above party. But the partisan instinct is hard to quell, and Democrats, in many cases, rushed in to exploit one of the braver acts of the Bush presidency.”

Even while expending political capital to help Clinton pass his 1993 budget, which raised taxes and trimmed some entitlement benefits, Foley angered some voters back home in Washington by suing to challenge a state referendum passed in 1992 that imposed term limits on state and federal officials.

“I felt profoundly that this was an unconstitutional act,” he said. A federal judge agreed, ruling for Foley in February 1994.

As that year’s midterm elections neared, Foley was among a group of top Democrats who tried without success to persuade Clinton to drop a proposed ban on assault weapons.

Clinton held firm, the ban passed, and Democrats lost 52 House seats, including Foley’s.

Foley and the other critics “were right and I was wrong” about the weapons ban, Clinton wrote in his memoir.

Then what was all the bullshit about how liberals hated him dipshit. "Foley's preference for compromise over confrontation frustrated his Democratic counterparts who wished that he would extract more concessions from the other party." You can't have it both ways! You ignorant fuck. I read the first three or four lines and stopped because it was all bullshit, including the wrong damn picture. Just like everything you post here fool!

I honestly cannot recall Foley..has it been that long since both sides of the aisle actually compromised for the benefit of the country? (rhetorical)

Its completely changed since then. The rich got fabulously richer like the Kroch Bros and now via the teaparty they want to "BUY" and think they have a right to buy whatever they want through congress. The sad part is they have enlisted a flock of non rich individuals and convinced them to vote against not only their personal interests but economic interests to enhance what the rich want so they can get richer and they can get poorer and they dont even know that theyre screwing themselves, sad.

we as a country don't think long term. A big disadvantage over, say China.
The Dems never say never to more spending, unless the Repubs force it.
Can't wait to see how we tackle 'entilement reform' - prolly more kicking the can down the road.

I do agree the plutocrats are running the show for their own special interests, and it's come down to using taxes to redistribute wealth -
nothing else works. Obama and the Dems won't say this - but it's pretty manifest; i have to support them, despite my misgivings of US wealth re-distribution. by fiat.

Proven something you have not, hmmm.

Because Foley voted with the liberals doesn't mean they didn't criticize them for being fair to the GOP, does it?

Yeah, except you didn't use the word "criticize" in your OP.

You claimed he was "reviled" by Democrats and that is just nonsense.

Nice job backpedaling btw.

Annatta they cant even begin to talk to me about entitlement reform until they "FIRST" reform all subsidies and gimmes to rich corporations and that includes all democrat favorites like green energy companies. They would have to totally get rid of ethanol and its production thats only purpose is to enrich big corn farmers. Ethanol additives DECREASE GAS MILEAGE decrease longevity of vehicle engines and DRIVE UP the cost of corn and all products made from corn and all animal feed with corn, that in turn has driven food costs up for all americans and americans that cant afford it.
They would have to reform the disgusting congressional lobbying which is nothing less than organized crime at its purest.
Thats the MINIMUM they would have to do before they even mention touching Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and Food stamps for the Mass's of americans on their knees.
In my humble uneducated non high school graduate opinion we the people have been utterly bamboozled about the reason for our Debt and this campaign against anything for working and poor america by the very privledged never had a bad day in their lives TEAPARTY.
They want to cut OUR entitlements they gotta get off their very soft collective ass's and offer me twice as much in return first.
The rich do not need mine or your help, its every other american thats lost their quality of life and the poor that have made the rich fabulously richer our priorities are all back asswards. Just my opinion of course, everyone has their own and has a right to their own

agree Yoda, on the pork, and the subsidies, these are a form of special intersts too - from what I know about ethanol....well i'll go with your description since you do.

The entitlement crunch is real; not an expert on this, but we are going to butt up against it; the best way is not to make cuts in programs (means teasting,,etc), untile we do everything else to streamline our gov't/economy.

What we are seeing though is built in obstructionism - the 2 party system (duopoly) has a choke hold on any new ideas.

I haven't got any use for the Tea's, they are just stubborn reactionarys at this point; i'm thinking the new Republicans are going to be much more libertarian
-but that's just a guess.

Really hate thinking along 2 party lines but that is the curse of American politics.
