Democrats Are Issue Driven; Republicans Obsess With Image

Hello Flash,

Democrats have distorted one-sided views of the two parties.

Republicans tend to listen to other Republicans describe distorted Democratic positions on issues.

Thus, the vast majority of Republicans really have no idea what Democrats' positions are.

If Republicans want to know where Democrats are on issues, they need to actually listen to Democrats.

Hello T. A.,

Maybe you could find one or two to help you with your replies...

Here's the latest demolition of masks as effective:

https://www.poverty-action.org/site..._RCT____Symptomatic_Seropositivity_083121.pdf

That was using N95 surgical masks, not cloth masks. A slight decrease in rate of infection. Masks don't work because they aren't changing the primary vectors by which people are catching Chinese Disease.

Your link says the mask wearing worked!

"Conclusions: Our intervention demonstrates a scalable and effective method to promote mask
adoption and reduce symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections."

A notable decrease in infection was scientifically shown. And that was surprising because they didn't even get half the subjects to wear masks or participate in distancing. I'm actually pleasantly encouraged by those results because it might have been expected that almost no benefit would result with so few individuals wearing masks. The reason for that is that mask wearing protects others far more than it protects the mask wearer. They probably got this scalable effect because they used N95 masks.

If a decrease in infection was recorded, that translates into fewer deaths.

Fewer deaths is fewer deaths.

I'm sorry, but the inconvenience of objectors is not more important than the lives of others.

All lives matter.

Hello T. A. Gardner,

I'd say that's a poor example. If you look at say, the New Green Deal, it's more about social and economic change moving to the Left than solving anything to do with the climate. The Democrats say they want to fix all those things they claim are caused by anthropomorphic climate change, but then their chosen solutions are all based on ignoring science, populism, and Leftist economic and social theory.

For example, there is now overwhelming evidence that solar and wind are an unworkable solution to a nation's energy needs. They are costly, polluting, and result in an unstable grid. They push battery cars even as fuel cell vehicles running on hydrogen or ammonia would be a far better and more workable solution. The "millions of great jobs" associated with this have failed to materialize.
At the same time, the Democrats push more public transit (even as it goes largely unused most places), higher urban density (leading to more urban heat island effects and concentration of pollution), and socializing the economy. These are all favorites of the Left. The most glaring example is the push for railroads and trains. These simply don't work in a large nation like the US. Distances are too great, the cost of right-of-way too high, and the time spent in transit too high to be cost effective.

The most extreme effects of climate change have failed to appear because they were never going to appear. The so-called climate scientists fudged their data for decades for political and personal gain. We've seen it again and again.

Climate change doesn't poll well because it isn't taken seriously, but rather used for political and economic gain by those pushing it.

Public transit is very heavily used. If you think otherwise, please show something to support that claim?

Trains are the most efficient mode of transportation, far less fuel or cost than planes or individual autos. Show the average traveler the seat they will have on a train and the one they get on a plane and ask them which they prefer. Be sure to mention that in the smaller one you will be strapped in and confined to your seat, but in the larger more comfortable one you will also be allowed to get up and wander about as you please.

The right erroneously takes cherry-picked examples of scientists who made mistakes to claim this represents all of climate science. It does not. The overwhelming vast majority of science agrees we are in a Climate Crisis.

Ford and Chevy are coming out with electric pick up trucks. A brand new auto maker called Rivian is also about to produce one, as well as electric delivery trucks for Amazon, because it will be a cost savings as well as a reduction of fossil fuels.

I support new tech safe nuclear power to produce electricity. I like the traveling wave reactor design which uses spent fuel from old tech reactors, and cannot have a melt down.

If 1st generation wind and solar has had issues, that is normal and expected. The standard engineering process is to learn from initial attempts and improve the next generation. The Wright Brothers didn't build an A380 in their first attempt. I salute the thousands of Americans who have virtually no electric bill because panels on their roof generate all their power. That is with current technology, and the field continues to improve in efficiency.

We cannot continue to extract fossil fuels and burn them without causing increased negative effects on the climate. Newton's Third Law states: For ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction. There is no way around this. Burning things for energy is now antiquated. It must stop.

The effects have materialized and they are going to get worse. Hurricanes are more frequent and they build up stronger because the water is warmer. Heat waves are setting records every year. Wildfires are more intense than anything we've seen. Record extreme wildfires in recent years. Sea levels are rising because the glaciers are melting faster.

The UN just released a study showing that extreme weather disasters are 5 times more prevalent than in the 1970's.

Agreed. Both parties have very distorted views of the other--the worst part is that they both spew hate about the other.

Even those who are well informed have inaccurate views of the other--the percent of members who are gay, who make over $150,000, and other characteristics.

They made an inconsequential difference. Their results (less than 1% difference) prove that. So, unless you are into the Church of Zero Tolerance the difference is inconsequential.

You are literally the most pitiful moron on the planet. When you were a kid your parents told you to cover your mouth when you coughed or sneeze and you weren't smart enough you don't have the brains your two God damn stupid to go from that to wearing a mask.

Hello T. A. Gardner,

They made an inconsequential difference. Their results (less than 1% difference) prove that. So, unless you are into the Church of Zero Tolerance the difference is inconsequential.

And that difference was noted after raising mask-wearing from 10% to 43% through a public awareness campaign.

It was a remarkable difference, because the greatest benefit from mask-wearing comes in protection for others, not the mask-wearer.

That point is significant because one infected person who refuses to wear a mask goes on with the Delta variant to infect 6 other people, and they go on to infect 36 other people.

But if that same individual wore a mask, those 36 other people would probably never have become infected.

Case in point.

During this discussion, we have seen the Democratic position of wanting to deal with pressing issues, and the Republican position denying the issues even exist.

Refusing to recognize far-reaching issues plays up well with the uninformed crowd that might be motivated to vote by stirring resentment of the better informed.

Thus, instead of debating issues, the Republican strategy is to create the image of pretending everything will be just fine if experts are ignored.

Biden said he was pulling out of Afghanistan. So did previous presidents. Biden did it.
Biden said he was doing infrastructure as previous presidents promised. He is delivering.
Biden actually appointed qualified people to the admin. That is why FEMA is doing a great job.
Biden has relied on the medical profession in determining national health procedures. The Repubs relied on Fox and Infowars.
Biden is very refreshing.

Republicans are cheap and irresponsible. They don't want to pay taxes and they don't want to pull their fair share of the load to run this country properly.

Republicans are always afraid any new government initiative is going to cost them more money personally.

Any time there is an issue which needs to be addressed, Republicans don't want to pay for it. So instead of debating what needs to be done about it, they simply deny that it is a problem.

If there is no problem then you don't have to pay anything to address it.

It's not hard to understand Republicans.

Democrats stand for good policy and seeking to solve problems.

Republicans are mostly motivated by hatred. Hatred of government, liberals, immigrants, Muslims, change, tackling pressing issues such as the Climate Crisis and the Pandemic.

It seems as if hatred and emotion are the only things keeping the Republican party viable at all.

If the votes of the angry and hateful of both sides were discarded (an academic consideration for argument sake only,) Democrats would be winning nearly every election because most of the Republican votes would be gone.

Ironically, Republicans want to be in control of the one thing they detest: government. Republican voters hate authority, hate being told what to do, but they want the authority to tell others what to do.

We have to have a government, but Republicans cling to old fashioned ideas that the smallest government is best. That results in an ineffective government which is unable to address pressing issues, and generates complaints about government. Republicans complain about the very government they wish to create.

What would give us the best government possible?

The best government would result from people analytically considering the logically most important issues, becoming as well informed as possible on them, and making a rational decision as to which candidates would best address those issues.

It is ironic that Republicans vote more on the basis of emotion, which causes a compromised government as a result, and then they turn around and disparage how bad they feel our government is.

It is also ironic that Republicans hold far more elective offices, when all the state governments and the federal government are added together, than Democrats, but Republicans complain more, and more loudly, that they are not happy with government.

Republicans have more power to change things, and complain the loudest that things need to change. It is very strange.
