Democrats(Reid) protect their own....

In a little-noticed email published online Wednesday by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a young Dominican woman wrote nine months ago that she slept with 59-year-old New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez at a series of sex parties organized by Dr. Salomon Melgen, a longtime Menendez campaign donor.

“That senator also likes the youngest and newest girls,” the woman wrote on April 21, 2012, according to an English translation provided to The Daily Caller by a native Spanish speaker.

“In the beginning he seemed so serious, because he never spoke to anyone, but he is just like the others and has just about the same tastes as the doctor, very refined. I think they were taking us more often to get us checked [medically] because of him.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) fended off questions about Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) at a press conference about immigration reform.

The first question out of the gate was from CNN correspondent Jim Acosta, who asked Reid when he learned that Menendez had reimbursed a political donor nearly $60,000 for two trips he took on the donor’s private plane.

Reid defended the Menendez as a “friend” and “outstanding senator” but declined to discuss any details he may have had with the New Jersey lawmaker about media reports of allegations that he had sex with prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.

“First of all, Bob Menendez is my friend. He’s an outstanding senator. Any questions in this regard, direct to him. I don’t know anything about it,” Reid said.

The purpose of the press event was for Democratic leaders to reiterate their call for comprehensive immigration reform, and Reid wanted to discuss his plan for moving the bill through the Judiciary Committee and then to the floor.

Menendez’s has denied the sexual allegations as “manufactured by a politically motivated right-wing blog” and “false.”

I can't stand Reid, and politicians do protect their own - but what do you expect in a case like this?

Until it goes beyond "allegations," anyone would be stupid to make incriminating statements or flash judgments. No doubt people do, but for anyone in the public eye, it's pretty damning to do that, & irresponsible.

The right's been going after Menendez for years. He has yet to be convicted of anything. Unlike Vitter.

Is the FBI now considered part of 'the right' to you, SB ?

Exactly what do you think Vitter was convicted of, pinhead ?

Using the logic of your OP, it doesn't matter if he's convicted.

That's a lovely partisan double-standard you just revealed on your own thread.

The FBI is obligated to investigate all charges, even if they're refuted like this one will be.

Sure...

Menendez’s has denied the sexual allegations as “manufactured by a politically motivated right-wing blog” and “false.”

What a coinkidink!

Just when immigration hearings are beginning!

This didn't pass the smell test from the beginning and now it's totally debunked. How many of you breitbart-boosting bozos are going to come forward and admit you were wrong? :D

"New Jersey Democrat Sen. Robert Menendez is demanding an investigation into the political operatives who may have been behind an elaborate plot to embroil him in an international sex scandal. "I have no idea who is behind these efforts, but I hope that the press will pursue them as vigorously to find out who was behind these efforts as they did in the first place," Menendez said Tuesday. "All I know is obviously there must be interests [who] were trying to defeat me in my election and who obviously did not want to see me in my role as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."

It all started last year as Menendez campaigned for re-election. Six days before the votes were cast, GOP operatives helped to arrange Skype interviews in the Dominican Republic with three women who all told ABC News the Senator paid them for sex. Two of the women repeated the claims to a conservative news website, the Daily Caller.

Their interactions with Menendez supposedly took place at the famed Dominican resort Casa de Campo and at the home there of one of the Senator's campaign donors, where the GOP operatives claimed in reports that surveillance teams learned of raucous pool parties where "everyone [was] naked, of course." But during the ABC News interviews, none of the women could produce identity cards with their names, and they all provided the same story almost word for word, as if they had been coached. They were, according to a sworn affidavit filed in court this week by one of the three women, who says it was all a set up.

In the affidavit, she said that she and the others were paid to use fake names and make up a story about sex with the Senator. A Dominican official familiar with the case confirmed that the woman in the affidavit, identified as Nexis de los Santos Santana, was the same woman who wore a yellow blouse when interviewed by ABC News.

In her interview with ABC News before the election, she said her name was Michelle Rodriguez and that she had come forward because Menendez had paid her only $100 of the $500 she had expected. She now says she was coached to make the claim. "I think it's a pretty elaborate plot to take down a sitting Senator," said Melanie Sloan, executive director of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. "I have no idea who would be behind this and who would go to such great lengths... who would fund this because it wasn't cheap."
