Democrats, The Party Of Death

Vatican official attacks U.S. Democrats as “party of death”

Vatican officials seldom single out political leaders who differ with the Church on issues like abortion rights or embryonic stem cell research. But now that the Vatican’s highest court is led by an American, the former St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke, we can expect things to get more explicit in Vatican City — at least when when it comes to U.S. politics.

Burke, who was named prefect of the Vatican’s Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature in June, told the Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire that the U.S. Democratic Party risked “transforming itself definitively into a party of death for its decisions on bioethical issues.” He then attacked two of the party’s most high profile Catholics — vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — for misrepresenting Church teaching on abortion.

He said Biden and Pelosi, “while presenting themselves as good Catholics, have presented Church doctrine on abortion in a false and tendentious way.”

Pelosi drew U.S. bishops’ scorn for saying in a television interview last month that the Church itself had long debated when human life begins. Biden is a practicing Catholic who also supports abortion rights and analysts have said he could help woo wavering Catholics into Obama’s fold. Both argue that they cannot impose their religious views on others.

Burke said pro-life Democrats were “rare” and that it saddened him that the party that helped “our immigrant parents and grandparents” prosper in America had changed so much over the years.

LOL

The Party Of Death, guess old Joe & Nancy won't be getting any invites to the Vatican.
:nolovejesus:

Why aren't the Republicans the party of death for believing in the death penalty? If the Catholic church is going to be partisan they should at least be consistent.

Because they have determined that it is worse to kill people who are definitely innocent, and they count up the numbers. Far more abortions take place each year than executions.

If you look at the numbers, it isn't even a close call in their view.

No person has ever died in an abortion, besides the botched abortion that were common before it became legal and in a few modern cases of malpractice. So what's their point? Abortion kills 0 people a year, the death penalty kills about 10,000 or so, and it's a completely preventable thing society does. It's a no brainer that the death penalty is infinitely worse.

This just shows an incapacity for understanding the view of others and really doesn't add to the conversation at all.

The only people killed by abortions are the mothers who die from illegal ones.
Even those dropped off to the same levels as the legal ones after the Roe v. Wade decision because of the advent of antibiotics. Most women who died, did so because of infection.

Almost all illegal abortions would be better described as "backdoor" abortions rather than "back-alley" abortions. The doctor would do it off the books with no written appointment.

However just repeating that "nobody dies in an abortion" is totally an opinion. One human life always ends in any successful abortion.

Women bleed to death because they scrape too much of the uterine wall away, puncture a major vessel, then can't proceed to seek medical help because they'll be prosecuted.

By the way, moron, antibiotics existed well before 1973.
Hence the capacity to compare the number of deaths. Ad hominem attacks notwithstanding you show either a lack of reading comprehension or a total incapacity for logical extrapolation from a statement.

Hence, again, the statement that "those dropped off to almost the same levels." The vast majority of deaths from illegal abortions were from infection, not from over-scraping of the uterine walls.

I agree that such deaths are possible to occur, but I do realize that antibiotics made even illegal abortions safer.

Any argument on abortion always eventually decays to a state where one side presents a positive frame of abortion and the other responds with a negative frame, ad nauseam.

Pretty much. I agree that women should be able to choose not to be incubators. I disagree that abortion is the only solution.
