I understand the rationale for speaking out against this bill and I actually agree with speaking out against this bill. The trouble is extrapolating from these five lawmakers in Oregon to Democrats writ large. That's just plain lazy and dishonest.

What was lazy or dishonest was hiding the fact that these were Dems in the article.
Further let's consider where these Democrats come from - Oregon. That is a fairly moderate state and does not even have extreme left strongholds like San Fran where this kind of thing is expected more to come out of.

I don't think it's that uncommon a view that the Democrat party (of nowadays) has become more elite and would be expected to tax something like beer more.

3) Again, your reasoning is bordering on braindead. It's not a matter of taxing something that is non-elite like beer. It's a matter of finding where revenue can be generated. A tax that hasn't been raised in 25 years is generally a decent place to start. Further, beers brewed in Oregon are mostly (if not all) craft and microbrewed beers, which, unless my stereotypes are all fucked up are "elite" products.

It won't pass. And if you actually bothered to read what I have been posting instead of keeping your outrage meter pegged at 11 you would see that I think this bill is stupid and that opponents of the bill are right and should vocally oppose this bill to prevent it from becoming law.

One apology that comes to mind is your repeated assertion that Iraq was "inevitable." An argument like this - aside from being pretty wrong - is the kind of thing that Bush dreams of, because if people accept that it was inevitable, he is not accountable.

"They" aren't taxing beer 1900%. One person suggested raising the tax on a large keg of beer from like 50 cents to 40 dollars.
